Radicalism is thinking outside the box, challenging dogma, preconceived notions, verities never verified. Most start doing that between the ages of 18 and 25. That is if you have the time and luxury to able to do that.

On September 29, 2009, in a column on the Newsmax.com blog, John L. Perry described the possibility of a military coup against President Obama to resolve what Perry calls the "Obama problem". Newsmax removed the column. In a statement, Newsmax stated that it did not want any misinterpretation of the article to be made and that it, as a news organization, strongly supported the idea of constitutional government.[30]

The above is just part of the reason that anything sourced from Newsmax should be placed in the fiction section of the library.

Col George, back when we were young, we used to call the same thing "increased standard of living." Remember that? We took such pride in our egalitarian views, we were the richest nation, we had a Presidential Physical Fitness program, to prepare all of us young students, our burgeoning minds--getting us ready to face the world and to do great things.
Parents could afford to send their kids to college, even blue collar workers, public education was at an all time (great) level, and everyone stood for every one else.
Gee gosh, I sincerely miss those years, and that attitude.

Marilyn, nothing against you. Please just consider the era in which Obama went to college. The term radical is defined differently for different age groups, and by individual situation. He was surrounded by people in college who were not of the privileged few but of parents that worked at menial jobs to eek out a living and try to make a better life for their children. So in that position in life, anything anti-establishment sounded good.

Yes Catt, I did figure out how long I would have to draw my SS to get out what I paid in and my employers paid on my behalf. I will have to live to 109 just to equil what I paid in. Louis, one instance Obama mentioned redistribution of wealth was back when he was a senator for a short time. His gripe about the Constitution is that it does not contain a provision for redistribution of wealth. That interview has been posted on Gather several times.

Thomas, I know all about those times. I'm not that much older than Obama. Even in the midst of my college years the ideas of Obama and his friends were radical. And the biggest point is that the man has not ever changed his mind. He wants to take money from some pockets and give it to others, even though they have done nothing to earn or deserve the money. He wants to keep people reliant on the government and not on their own abilities. He wants to keep people down, not lift them up. And I think it's so sad that people think that his ideas and policies are good ones.

What we need from our government stay out of our way while we fail or succeed. We need them to protect us from our enemies. We need them to care for those who absolutely cannot care for themselves and to kick the others out of the nest.

Eamon and Char, you're both right. Reagan knew his strengths and his weaknesses and made sure to fill in his weaknesses with people who held those strengths. Obama would have done well to copy that. That's what great leaders do. They do not surround themselves with "yes men" and like minded people with the same strengths and weaknesses.
