It's a huge story here about texting while driving, I suppose it is everywhere. I, personally, agree with the stictness of the law. I have tried it. I know I can't do both, drive and text. But I do think about the other things people do while they drive. Of course, fast food. Who doesn't eat a cheeseburger or sip a drink while driving down the road? Okay, maybe vegetarians, but maybe they grabbed a veggie wrap and ate it on the way back to work.
I've seen women applying makeup, people arguing with children but I saw something I won't soon forget this weekend. I was coming home from work and stopped at the red light. I glanced over at the little pickup next to me and my jaw dropped. An older man was driving. He was alone except for the beautiful white cockatoo with him. That in itself isn't remarkable but the fact that the bird was perched on the steering wheel, feathers stretched out, head leaning forward as if to kiss his owner, was unbelievable.
Last summer a man was killed working on a roadside crew as he was hit by a car. The driver had dropped his lit cigarette and was searching for it as he drifted at 35 miles an hour across oncoming traffic to hit the road worker.
Sometimes things happen and it often only takes a second of poor judgement for a tragedy to happen.
