How to have a job you enjoy is really no great secret, to obtain and hold it just requires that an individual realize that each of us is in essence responsible for our own happiness and satisfaction, even at work. To have a job you enjoy is a blessing - anyone who has ever held a job that they hated can attest to that in short order. One of the strangest facts about having a job that you enjoy is that the harmony at work spills over into personal endeavors outside of the workplace, and results in a snowball effect of tranquility that generally makes for a happier overall human being. In any case, how to have a job you enjoy is to understand that there are circumstances in the workplace that are beyond your control, and to commiserate on the actions and thoughts of others is a useless waste of precious energy.
How to have a job you enjoy begins with the realization that a productive and competent person at work travels a smooth path of little resistance, both from peers and management. Simply stated, doing your job proficiently and in a timely fashion reduces the stress and disharmony that allows work situations to become troubling for all concerned. To have a job you enjoy requires that you possess the attributes of an enjoyable person to be around - pleasant people breed happiness in the workplace in much the same manner as miserable people breed distress, so don't be a poster-child for malcontents. Try not to fall into the trap of being sucked into the issues of other people in the workplace. It is okay to empathize with a given situation, but to have a job you enjoy requires that you remember the negativity of others detracts from a pleasant work experience.
Finally, to have a job you enjoy means you need to take the best possible position of employment, one that offers the greatest chance of enabling your happiness. If you start a new job and the pay and benefits stink, the management team is comprised of an assorted collection of village idiots and your coworkers look suicidal then get the hell out of there as soon as possible. While it is difficult to get a job you enjoy in a tough economy it is not impossible, and if the new work environment is stressful then seek a new job immediately while retaining the old one. To have a job you enjoy is work at the beginning to obtain the perfect position, but once you have a job you enjoy you will probably never let it go.
