According to the latest news reports a Kleen Energy Middletown CT Power Plant explosion has claimed the lives of at least two people. Officials are expecting the death toll to rise, with CNN stating earlier that two deaths have officially been reported so far.
The Connecticut Power plant explosion occurred around 11:30AM EST at the Kleen Energy Systems which is located in Middletown, an area of Connecticut that is located between the capital city Hartford and New Haven. The blast was heard from as far as ten miles out, and many residents or those nearby reported that it felt like an earthquake was happening.  The Kleen Energy Systems plant was recently under construction, and is located on the bank of the Connecticut River.
The Kleen Energy plant is located at 1340 River Road in Middletown, on the Connecticut River. According to Businessweek.com, the plant is a natural gas-fired power plant. The town of Middletown is part of Middlesex, Connecticut and in 2000 had an estimated population of over 40,000 people. Â
The Kleen Energy Middletown CT power plant explosion has left black smoke visible for miles. Emergency crews were dispatched from around the state and still working to airlift victims from the accident scene as of earlier reports. Until the debris and scene has been fully investigated a full count of injuries or fatalaties will be unavailable. Fire departments reporting on the scene have said the death count is "many".
