Frances Reid, who played the infamous Alice Horton for 39 years has passed away at the age of 95. Her last appearance on Days of Our Lives was in December 2007.
Frances Reid played opposite Macdonald Carey, who played her husband Dr. Tom Horton from 1965 until he passed away in 1994.
Days of Our Lives cast member Alison Sweeney twittered about Reid's death, saying, "I'm so sad to hear the news about Frances Reid." Sweeney plays the part of Sami Bradi on Days, and is the host of The Biggest Loser. She also said that Frances Reid, "was a truly talented actress, and we are all lucky and proud to have known her.
Frances Reid was honored in 2004 with a Daytime Emmy Lifetime Achievement Award.
I remember watching Frances Reid as Alice Horton with my great-grandmother back in the mid-sixties. I had little to no interest in soap stars, but retained the characters and their names. Later when I came to watch the show as a teenager, many of the same characters were still on board. In recent years I've been an occasional Days of Our Lives viewer, and admit to missing Frances Reid since she left the show in '07.
Frances Reid made her Broadway debut in The Dream of Sganarelle. She also appeared in Twelfth Night, Cyrano de Bergerac, Hamlet and The Rivals.
She was a frequent guest star on TV shows like Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Dr. Kildare, Perry Mason and The Alfred Hitchcock Hour.
Frances Reid was married to Phillip Bourneuf, an actor, for 43 years until he passed away in 1979. They had no children.
Frances Reid was remembered by Deidre Hall, who plays Dr. Marlena Evans on Days of Our Lives.
“Greg Meng called me this morning to tell me of the loss of our darling Frances Reid. She was loved, revered, and will be remembered,” Hall said.
Frances Reid passed away in Los Angeles yesterday, February 3.
