Fast Food in Hospitals

I have been to many hospitals in the U.S. where there is a Mickey Ds or BK (or both).  The hospital in Sedona even has a Starbucks in the lobby.  If you think your doctor is really on your side, think again.

When I lived and worked in Louisville, KY, the Norton's Children's Hospital had such fantastic food in their cafeteria, most of downtown showed up there for lunch.  I did!

Forty per cent of hospitals have fast food in the lobby. While you might consider this an outrage, the hospital probably considers it business as usual. Fast food causes chronic disease, and a future source of new revenue for the hospital. fast food causes obesity, metabolic syndrome, insulin resistant diabetes, hypertension and accelerated cardiovascular disease,

I've seen it in the large hospitals
many years ago we went to Memphis for my husbands brain surgery and that hospital had a Subway.

Financial benefits to the hospital probably out weigh the message. I remember when my high school class arranged for an apple machine in the school. It was great, cold apples dispensed like a snack machine...right in the front of the entrance to the auditorium... I bet it's long gone.

Seeing Heather C.'s comment reminds me that we had fruit machines in my Junior High School forty years ago. I have not seen anything like that in schools since. Our hospital waiting room has the usual junk snacks and pop available but also has fruit, and water for sale. No restaurant but they have a cafeteria open a few hours daily. It has some healthy choices. I am fortunate not to have to be at the hospital often.

Like I mentioned, Norton's Children's in Louisville has a 5-star cafeteria that almost everyone who works downtown goes to at noon or in the evening. Not what everyone considers "hospital food."

I've never thought that doctors were on my side, nor the FDA, Monsanto, etc. Fast food is an abomination!

I had no idea. Of all the hospitals I've been to in my life, not one had these restaurants. Just the cafeteria.

Give me a Second Cup over a Starbucks anyday. Also, Second Cup coffee is better for you.

La Jolla,Ca is one of the wealthiest communities in the US.THe quality of food in public jails in CHile is better than what is available in the cafeterias of La Jolla's largest Hopital.My father was a missionary who worked in CHilean jails.THey got fresh fish and fava beans (no nice CHianti).IN public high school we got better food that what I have seen for 20 years at La Jolla hospitals.
