I can't believe it. I listened to the President speak tonight. We are a nation at war, and Americans are being killed every day in Iraq and Afghanistan. In the State of the Union addres, that was THIRD, and FINAL, on the President's agenda? It just make me sick to my stomach.

R.F., In the second stimulus as well as the first it was said we sould spend the pittance they dolled out to us to help the economy. Obama may not mention it but the Pentagon budget is now the largest in history. You don't thin expanding the war in Afghanistan and entering Pakistan and Yemen are indefensible I guess? The only difference between Bush and Obama is that here is one more letter in the name.

From the wife of a gulf war vet. we need to finish what we started there or they will be back on American soil and kill another 3,000 in one day. My daughter in law is serving there now, and we are proud of her, and all the others like her, who have gone willingly so that we can be free here in the United States. She gets really upset when those here in the US belittle what she's doing...and so do I. If these men and women were drafted, it would be a different story. They volunteered, because they believe in what we're doing there.
I hate the war. But I hate the fact that all those people died in the world trade center and the Pentagon even worse.
I wouldn't want to look the wife, mother, son, brother of someone who died on 9-11 and tell them that we didn't care about their family enough to fight for them.

I support our troops fully but not the war. The war is futile, and we are losing young people daily.

Uh... Paula, the people that were allegedly responsible for 9/11 died that day. They are not in Iraq (virtually no terrorists were when we invaded) and they're not in Afghanistan.

Our soldiers are not fighting to avenge 9/11 and they're not even fighting for our freedom, as is so commonly said.
Regardless of the reasons, the fact is that American troops are now bogged down in two deadly conflicts and something needs to be done. Decisive action needs to be taken. Everday the President met with advisors to see if he should send the extra troops they were asking for is another day Americans died. Forget the stupid arguing about reasons. Fix it!

The best way to fix it is to bring the troops home. They are not there to stop terrorism at all they are there for control of the country. Colonalism pure and simple. We are not involved in any way protecting our country from anything.

I would like for the troops to come home just as much as the rest of you---and I promise you my son does.
I'm just asking that people quit degrading what they are doing over there! And that's what some (I'm not pointing fingers, and I know it's not all) are making it sound like.
I don't agree with the politics of it all...but I am PROUD of my daughter in law and my niece who are both there.
And I'll be sure and tell them that you don't think they're fighting for your freedom to say what you want about them and our government...love it or hate it. I'm sure they'll appreciate that the next time an insurgant shoots at them.

This war is similar to the Vietnamese War--unwinnable and devastating to all concerned. Bring our troop home now and rehabilitate them.

This Bush war is one of the biggest blunders by the US in history.

Even Tony Blair says it was Bush's war. I listened to his testimony live this morning on the BBC. The British have the guts to do a full, open inquiry into this mess. Not Americans, though. Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and Rice should all be put on trial, and it all should be televised. And if they lie once on the stand, they should continue their trials in jail with a perjury sentence.

Some of them are 'coming clean', RF. I think they resented the way they were told to do it and shut up during that time. Many are pretty happy to admit that they were forced by their superiors to go along with what they knew to be an illegal action. ALL the attorneys except one in the government said it was illegal - the one that they could find to actually say it was legal wrote the argument for war and that's the justification they chose. Same tactic Bush used in his administration. They found one legal patsy and ran with him.
