I have always been a very compassionate person. I seem to be able to feel others pain just by looking at them. I can go into a room and sense those in pain of some sort. Sometimes it is a blessing and other times it is a curse.
I enjoy helping others and feel so good when I am able to do so. I am not the kind of person who openly does it though. I like to do my helping from the background and not let anyone know I am doing it.
It seems to me that people are getting more selfish in today's society. Society tries to tell us that we are entitled to material blessings. We deserve them and we deserve them NOW. I think it takes a tragedy like the people in Haiti are suffering for us to open our minds to the fact that we are fortunate and we have more than we need.
I think it is times like this that we realize that we just may be our brothers keeper. We just may be needed to help another pick themselves up when they are down. It seems to me that we are too quick to forget the blessings we have in our lives. We take life for granted. We never really focus on the important things until we are forced too.
So yes I think we are our brothers keeper. We are all here on this earth at the same time so we can help each other. So we can be there when others need us. So they can be there when we need them. We need not feel alone.
I think we need reminded of this from time to time.
What do you think? Are we our brothers keeper? Are we just to look out for ourselves or are we to look out after others as well? Is society trying to tell us that we deserve more than anyone else?
