Please, please, please.....read this! I just sent out a letter to the membership yesterday, but it seems it is not being read.
I hate to decline articles submitted to our "Kitchen Tricks, Hints & Tips" group, but we keep receiving articles that do not comform to the purpose of this group.
Please pay attention to the group description!!! (see below)
The main thing to remember is that we only accept hints or tip articles or a recipe that shows a definite trick or simple way to do a chore easier, cut out extra work, or a new technique or new idea for doing a traditional job.
ONLY kitchen/food/cooking related tricks, hints or tips.
This is NOT just a recipe site group, so don't just send a recipe... there are many other groups in Gather that accept just recipes.
This is not necessarily just a frugal group or a cook on the cheap group.
For an article with a recipe to be accepted, is has to show some sort of technique, or simple way to do a particular job or ways to save time in the kitchen. The technique, hint or tip is the main focus, NOT the recipe .....It has to be either original by the member who contributed it, or it has to have a legitimate source clearly stated.
No plagiarism allowed. That also means that we will not accept something taken from a newspaper, magazine, website, etc., if it has just been cut and pasted with no source available.
It has to show a source, regardless of where it comes from, including your Nana or Aunt Lily.
This is NOT a group for family, pets, flowers or snow bunny photographs or ANY photographs except for those that show a cooking technique, trick, hint or tip or illustrating the recipe that mentions the technique, hint or trick!
I've had to delete too many photos that are not even food related, much less showing a cooking technique.
PLEASE READ: group description
There are many little simple ideas, tricks, hints and tips that can make cooking fun and cut some time off from long involved preparations - come and share yours! You CAN post a recipe IF it illustrates a particular cooking technique.
Suggested group Tags: kitchen tips, hints, great ideas, fun cooking, easy cooking, cooking, tricks
Only simple ideas, tricks, hints and tips that can help cut down on long preparations, add to your enjoyment of cooking and still come up with spectacular results. Please, this is NOT the place for posting only a recipe, UNLESS the recipe is directly related to a hint or tip being given.....
I know I'm repeating myself, but please do pay attention to the group's description.
Thank you for your cooperation!
We welcome new members, but please ask you play by the rules!
"Kitchen Tricks, Hints & Tips"
Sonia
PS... please don't be offended when I delete articles or photos that don't fit the guidelines of the group

I love it. your group, if I start with the premise I want to avoid doing anything I don't have to. To have time to do what I like to do.
I probably have a few tricks and time savers.
But now I have to be gluten free. so most of my old ideas are no longer applicable
I am learning new tricks on how to cook gluten free.
But you can share other information (pre-gluten free days) since it would help a lot of us!
No fear of me ever sharing how to make burnt offerings in the kitchen other than how to easily explode boiled eggs ... forget to top up the water in the pan and it will evaporate, exploding the eggs. It's so easy that anyone can do it.
Although I don't think you have anything to "share" with the group as far as showing some sort of technique, or simple way to do a particular job or ways to save time in the kitchen, I do believe you could learn something from the group as far as reading other people's articles.
Magi....don't feel bad. I too forgot a whole saucepan of egs I was boiling and ended up cleaning burnt egg offerings off the ceiling and every surface far and near the stove.... and this was in my own cooking school in SC!!!
A well researched article on can openers, based on test driving a large variety, would be timely, Sonia. Another would be on how to most effectively remove shrapnel from exploded eggs!
As to what to do with the resulting shrapnel from exploding eggs...not much you can do except clean it up as best you can and keep an eye out as sometimes you find bits and pieces several weeks down the line as you move items on the kitchen counters and even when giving the ceiling an ocassional glance....and don't forget the top of the fridge....;-)
Then, if it happens a second time, I remove the offender's privilege of posting to the group. (a neat trick) Don't apologize for managing your group - it's not worth it.
Good Luck!
(I guess I need/should read more about how to manage groups)
Thank you, Richard. I don't want to be too hardnosed about it, but it just might be the solution...
Although I must say I have been the one frustrating the group owners on occasion, it isn't always clear what the group owners really meant or wanted:)
Sonia, above all, I do *not* feel bad about it! If people can't live by openly posted rules such as yours,, they have no reason to expect that you'll make nice and let them post anyway.
I love being in groups where the owner enforces the rules, because that way I know I'm actually getting what I signed up for.
In the beginning I was trying to be nice and accepted even borderline stuff. I'm going back now and deleting stuff that does not fall within the group's description, no matter how good I think the article or photo is.
Thanks for your comment and suggestions. It helps to get support from other members.
I have Groups where I absolutely do not even like some of the people any more (not a lot of them, but a hand~full of them that like advertising their Groups on people's content) ~ when it is being FEATURED. And even when it is not being FEATURED it is just RUDE to have BIG BODACIOUS blinking banners and crap all over the place attached to other people's Articles, photographs, and videos...
It is one thing to have a single line letting the Author know that their content is featured, it is another thing to take up a whole comment box telling them so.
Then, you have to swim into your Groups to find things, because people are inconsiderate of others. They'll post 200 photos when they know there are over 1,000 people in the Group who are ACTIVE!
I don't want to go on a rant on your Article, but I really need to do what you just did, and send it out to all members. And I probably need to be a lot less nice. Niceness doesn't cut it these days.
Telling people not to do certain things, and to read the Group Description is like talking to a wall with some people.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU for this!
HUGS ~
Rene
I hate to be a grouch but I had just about had it when I wrote that... ;-) and then turned around and put the group under moderation...some members didn't like it and they left....that was fine with me since they were the worst offenders.
You're not being a grouch. You shouldn't really have to say the obvious, but some people are just really inconsiderate. I was looking around at some of my Gather Friends Groups, and I notices that the same OFFENDERS are trashing their Groups as well. I also discovered that many Groups closed up due to these inconsiderate people. I think it is a shame. I also think that maybe they need to be called out so that people won't unknowingly connect with them.
I'm still grateful that you posted this, because I think that a lot of Gather Group Owners can identify with the issues you raised in this Article.
BIG HUGS to you Sister Sonia!
You're right. Most of them are a little handfull and they do it to any group they can get in...
If a group like this one is called Kitchen Tricks, Hints and Tips, you would not expect to want to post an article or photos about your pets, your children, knitting or vacations, and yet, some people do.
