The Mike Francesa Show (WFAN, YES) reported the New York Mets will sign JasonBay. The deal is contingent on Bay passing his physical next week. Though terms of the deal was not discussed, the San Francisco Gate wrote that the Mets had offered a four-year deal for up to $65 million.
Bay was traded to the Boston Red Sox last summer in a three-team trade that saw Manny Ramirez shipped to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Bay is a lifetime .280 hitter who has hit 30+ Home Runs in 4 of the past 5 seasons.
This signing indicates the Mets are trying to keep pace with their cross-town rivals the New York Yankees who have added Curtis Granderson and Javier Vazquez, and were reported to be interested in acquiring Jason Bay. The Mets still need to bolster their pitching even though they have acquired relief pitchers, including Kelvim Escobar, in recent weeks.
