Vikings vs Bears is the matchup for NFL Picks Week 16 Monday Night Football and we get a peek at Brett Favre days after he usurped all power from Minnesota Vikings Head Coach Brad Childress. Tonight’s battle against the Chicago Bears has more playoff implications because of the New Orleans Saints’ second loss of the season.
The Minnesota Vikings had been a steady ship all season until their loss to the Arizona Cardinals. But it was last week’s loss to the Carolina Panthers that shed light on inner turmoil and caused us to drop them from 4 to 5 in our Power Rankings. The Vikings have lost 3 out of 4 road games they have played and the 3 early road wins were against very weak opponents.
With the Vikings, one starts to wonder whether Brett Favre has already satisfied his season’s goal: to beat the Green Bay Packers two times. Or, is last year’s decline in December a trend that suggests Favre is either fatigued or injured.
If the Vikings win tonight and next week and the Saints lose again, then the Vikings will be the 1st seed for the NFC playoffs and gain home-field advantage throughout. A loss tonight opens the door for either the Philadelphia Eagles or Dallas Cowboys to clinch the 2nd seed, and push the Vikings out of contention for a playoff bye week.
For the Chicago Bears, except for derailing a division rival’s playoff run, they have nothing to play for tonight. The Bears are 5-9 on the season and 4-10 Against The Spread, with 7 straight losses.
