My husband has always been a fan of survivor, except for this year. The very beginning of the show told how far they would go for ratings by not excluding a comment from an immoral contestant. Russell Hantz, a 36-year-old Texan oil company owner, started the season out with nothing but lies. The show is pre recorded so they could have edited his comments before they even aired. The show's producers have every chance to edit a taping before air time. But to them, human decency isn't in the budget.
It takes a whole a whole lot of evil to capitalize on human suffering. Russell and the producers of this famed show have just the right amount. Russell knew coming into the game that empathy could carry him through the weeks to come. When the fellow castaways heard that he was a survivor of Katrina, their hearts went out to him and he was saved from elimination many times over. Here's the TRUTH though! This "man" is not a Katrina survivor! He is from Texas, not Chalmette, Louisiana. He used another person's tragedy as his own to win a game.
Yes the show is a game and lies are necessary to get ahead. I'm simply stating that a lie such as this one should never been allowed. I mean if someone went on there and said they lost a loved one on 9-11, but was lying about it and the producers knew it was a lie, they would edit it out! I'm not trying to compare Katrina, a natural disaster to 9-11, a horrific attack. I'm simply stating that a loss of life on such a scale as either of these is a human tragedy and NO ONE should be allowed to capitalize on such!
