My niece got a tattoo today!

My 19 year-old niece got a tattoo today.  I never thought she would want one but once I saw it, I completely understood why she had it done.  She has been a type 1 diabetic since age 2 1/2.  She has always worn a Medic Alert necklace or bracelet but in the past few years she has developed an allergy to several metals.  She breaks out in severe rashes and sees a dermatologist.

Her new tattoo is the universal symbol for Medic Alert and type 1 diabetes.  She said it really wasn't a bad experience at all.

She had this done this afternooon.  It is on the inside of her arm above her wrist.

 

Do you know anyone who has a tattoo for medical reasons?

That is a good idea for someone who is diabetic and is allergic to metals. Good for her.

The red ink was a concern but they thought it would be best to make it larger instead of smaller.....smaller would have meant having to fill all the red in to make it more visible.

If they made it smaller they would have had to fill all the red in and they were concerned with a reaction from the ink.....apparently red is the color that people sometimes have a reaction to.

That is really a neat idea, my brother has one that has his blood type on it, he is in military so if he cant speak they will know

I don't know of anyone who has done this but it is a very good idea, especially since she is allergic to metals and can't wear the bracelet or necklace.

This (medical reasons) is probably the only reason I would consider getting a tattoo. I know your niece feels a sense of security in having it.

Shoot I have been told off more then one time for having my tattoo!!
Doctors do not like people with my medical problems having tattoos lol!! I have even been told I can not have a seizure disorder, I have a tattoo lol!!

Good for her, this is really a great idea for her to have done!!

That is really cool. I have never known anyone else who got a tattoo for medical reasons, but it makes a lot of sense. And I really like the design, it's interesting.

I am not fond of Tattoos but have gotten used to them in my old age with my youngest and his girlfriend covered with them. But this is a great idea!

Ooops, you spelled diabettic wrong .... just kidding. That is about the best reason I have seen for a tattoo, I hate'em, but that one's very artistic. Let's hope they don't find a cure for diabetes, and she doesn't get AIDS from the needle.
