I'd like to share a holiday safety tip

With the bad economy, crime is on the rise.  This should be of no surprise to anyone.

One of my former coworkers had her house broken into last night and all the presents were stolen from under the tree.  This is not uncommon, as there have been a number of similar stories on our local papers.

One way to avoid this happening to you is to not put the presents under the tree until absolutely necessary.

This practice serves two purposes:  1) burglars are less likely to take what they cannot immediately see, and 2) it makes Christmas morning all the more dramatic for the kids when they see nothing under the tree at night and stuff under the tree in the morning.

I always hide the presents from everyone (and not in one location either) until Christmas Eve night.

Just thought I'd share a little tip with you.  Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, etc.

Thanks for the tip. I recommend storing them in the closet. This is what my mother did. Finally, it was horrible that your friend's house was bulgarized.

It is really sad that she was robbed. Her kids are 4 and 3 months. Hopefully I can maybe help out with a gift or two.

That's a great tip Kathy. I'm like you mine are hiding all over the place, but I never thought about the burglary part.

Yes, I had already come to the same conclusion. I have a teenager here and he brings me a lot of his friends. Instead of placing gifts under the tree I have them in my office. I'll put them out on Christmas Eve. That is a great tip and I thank you for posting it.

Thanks for the tip. It's a good idea, but the presents under the tree are so pretty. Maybe you could wrap some emply packages for decorations.

Kathy, I'm reading this post while driving so I can respond in detail, but what I can say is that you shouldn't start stuffing the Christmas socks until the family is asleep.
