The Toronto Blue Jays have finalized a deal to send the greatest pitcher in their history to the Philadelphia Phillies.
The six-time all-star will go to Philly in exchange for two minor league prospects from the Phillies (pitcher Kyle Drabek and catcher Travis D'Arnaud) and one from the the Athletics acquired via another trade (third baseman Brett Wallace).
Breathe.
Big trade.
There was another part of th
is deal that sent another ace to the Mariners (Cliff Lee). But the Mariners and the Phillies have had aces before...This is a big deal for the Jays.
This is a big deal for the future of baseball in Canada. Sending Doc Halladay out of the Great North and into another Northeastern baseball hub is painful for Canadians and might serve as more than just a painful moment: it might be a harbinger of things to come for Canadian baseball.
