Following the Tiger Woods affair scandals that have hit the news, Gatorade has dropped its drink "Gatorade Tiger Focus". The brand claims, “We decided several months ago to discontinue Gatorade Tiger Focus along with some other products to make room for our planned series of innovative products in 2010. We hope to share more about our 2010 plans soon.”
This announcement probably means one of two things:
1.) Gatorade had already planned to drop Gatorade Tiger Focus and thought that the current media trends would be beneficial to promoting the brand. Everyone's talking about Tiger now. Would anyone really care that Gatorade was dropping his product and that they had a new line out if they made this announcement months from now?
2.) Gatorade is lying. They're uncomfortable and don't want their brand to be associated with a philanderer who crashed his car while high on prescription drugs.
Either way, Gatorade was smart to make the announcement now. There goes Gatorade royalties for Tiger Woods.
