I'd like to start off by saying I'm not a parent, and if I was I wouldn't be old enough to have teens. I'm a fan of the Gossip Girl television series, and I normally like to read the books that a show I like is based on. Before I invested in one of the books, I googled to see what I'd find. What I did find was lots of outraged parents, posting about there being too much sex and drug use for their teens. Some parents were just happy their teens were reading, saying they'd move onto other books eventually. I never expected it to be a modest like teen book after seeing the show, which featured similar themes. I bought two books, one was the prequel and the other was one I happened to catch on sale at borders for a dollar. The books had a disclaimer that it was for ages 15 and up. The prequel featured drug use, drinking, and sex, but it was nothing I hadn't heard before at the age expected to read the books. In fact I'd heard a lot worse. The books features a trio of teens who are in love, well the two girls love the same boy. I didn't get through the second book because it bored me. It's storyline included a possibly gay boy, who later decides he is not gay. I don't think the books feature anything the 15 year olds haven't already heard or been through, but I'd like to hear what other people have to say on this matter. I know a lot of parents read books before passing them along to their teens(which I actually think is great because they could discuss the books later).

I have read the first 3 or 4 books (found em cheap a few years ago and picked em up), and enjoyed them. I wouldn't be completely opposed to Rae reading the ones I did (she's almost 14), but I won't let her watch the show.
I am very close with my kids and we do a lot of family things together...I hope that this will help them as they get older
