Robert Gibbs and April Ryan sparked some controversy today at a White House press briefing. April Ryan, a member of the news media, was insistent on having her question concerning White House social secretary Desiree Rogers' attendance at the White House State Dinner. April Ryan asked, and perhaps insinuated, if Desiree Rogers invited herself or was actually a guest of the Obamas.
Because Ryan was so persistent as Gibbs tried to signal that her question was not the purpose of the press meeting and that he would rather answer more pertinent questions (i.e. the Afghanistan decision), he briefly compared her temperament to his young son. Naturally she was offended and thick tension was felt in the room.
