Dark Was The Night was the compilation album that had everyone. If you could gather all my favorite bands and get them on one disc, this would be the result. There's the fantastic Ben Gibbard and Feist collaboration in "Train Song," haunting and sweet at the same time; there's Bon Iver with a great B-Side of For Emma, Forever Ago; there's Sufjan Stevens with the electronic "You Are The Blood"; and the very excellent My Brightest Diamond with "Feeling Good."
And that's only the tip of the iceberg. What a tired cliche. You won't find any of those on this disc. They probably didn't try to write all their songs at once to meet a deadline that snuck up on them during the Thanksgiving festivities. Hopefully my posts next month won't be so short and vague. Haste makes mediocrity, I always say. But thanks for reading! Get this record!
