LONESOME DOVE was a western mini series on CBS.
Short lived TV series was a spin off of the popular 1989 miniseries of the same name. The characters are based on those in the novel, also titled Lonesome Dove - Written by Pultzer Prize winning author Larry McMurtry.
The Western follows the dramatic adventures & disasters of a yound Texsd Ranger Newt Dobbs, played by Scott Bairstow. The series also stars Christianne Hirt, Eric McCormack, Kiahann Carroll, & Billy Dee Williams.
Scott Bairstow starred Newt Call, a young man in search of his fortune who settled in the town of Curtis Wells, Montana in the Dakota Territory of the 1870's & late became the town's Deputy Sheriff. Newt Call is the son of Texas Ranger, Woodrow Call writes a book called "Lonesome Dove: Tales of the Plains" that chronicled his life.
Movie:
Two former Texas Rangers living a quiet life running a cattle compay near Lonesome Dove, Texas, are intruded upon by a third former Ranger who is fleeing the law after accidentally killing someone.
He talks them into being the first to take cattle into the Montana territories & tells them it will be the last change to re live some of the excitement they experienced in their younger days.
Hence they steal some horses & a herd of cattle, signed on a crew & head for Montana. Facing many dangers along the way like rustlers, wind storms, & Indians.

LONESOME DOVE was so popular that 2 sequels & a prequel were produced.
The series was based on the novel LONESOME DOVE written by Larry McMurtry & the hightly acclaimed CBS TV mini-series LONESOME DOVE (1989) & RETURN TO LONESOME DOVE (1993). The series was re-titled LONESOME DOVE: THE OUTLAW YEARS in its 2nd season.
