The National Dog Show Presented By Purina shown on NBC following the end of Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is another part of the classic celebration. While some will switch over to watch football, some others might stick around to watch the National Dog Show. This event started airing following the parade back in 2002, and now it is definitely part of the tradition for this day.
As a fan of dogs and all animals, I'm a fan of anything that puts these creatures that are our best friends in the spotlight. Dogs and their feline counterparts give us owners years of love and support just by being around us.
On Thanksgiving, it is important to remember our smaller friends as well. They add something to our lives each and every day, and some even say that pet owners add years onto their lives just by having a pet. We don't own them. They most definitely own us.
As for dogs, the animals featured in today's show - we have 75 million dogs in 45 million homes around the country. That is according to the man that brought the show to NBC. That is a lot of dogs.
To those pet owners, share your friend with us. Tell me about your dog or your cat. Cats needs love too. My cat Mikey is very much my best friend. The orange tabby entered my life four years ago, and he is very much an important part of my life. I also remember the cats that have been in my life before - JJ and Bobo. They may no longer be with me, but they also filled my life with much joy during their time with me.
