THE Queensland Government has started the ball rolling on the first public asset to be sold under its $15 billion privatisation plan.
Treasurer Andrew Fraser told parliament today the formal sale process for Forestry Plantations Queensland (FPQ) was under way.
Mr Fraser said that in line with its initial commitment, the Government was not selling the crown plantation land on which the business is located - only the rights to manage, harvest and re-grow the plantation timber.
FPQ has a long-term sustainable harvest of around two million cubic metres a year.
FPQ's tree crop plant-harvest rotations range from 25 to 45 years on about 210,000 hectares (518921 acres) of plantation forest, within an overall land holding of about 300,000 hectares (741316 acres).
The Australian Federal Government is about to pass its ETS (Emissions Trading Scheme) Or Carbon Credit system.. and under this system the 300,000 Hectares (741316.1 Acres) would be worth approx $7 billion in carbon Credits per year, without harvesting them. But the Queensland Government is going to sell it off for firewood value only. The Queensland Government is the Biggest polluter in the state as it controls all the coal fired power stations, Trains, Airports, Sea Ports, Roadbuilding, and Desalination plants ETC and will have to pay the Federal Government money for carbon Credits, where as if they keep their plantations, the state will be close to carbon Neutral. Is Queensland truly the DUMB STATE in Australia?
