Chaz Bono, age 40--the child of Cher and Sonny Bono , who was born Chastity Bono--is undergoing the process of transitioning from female to male. Chaz Bono is set to document the process of becoming a transgender individual in hopes that he may help others with the process. Cher has been “loving and supportive” of her child throughout the process. Meanwhile, Mary Bono, a Republican conservative and wife of Chaz’s father, the late Sonny Bono, released a statement in support of the 40-year-old’s decision. “The congresswoman loves and supports Chaz and is hopeful that his privacy and very personal decisions will be respected during this time,” Mary Bono’s statement read.
Chaz has already begun taking hormone pills and there has been a noticeable difference in his voice. As you can see by the video below, Chaz is beginning to look far more male, and his voice is becoming close to that of a man. His body language has always been male.
Chaz hopes that his choice to transition will open the hearts and minds of the public regarding this issue, just as his ‘coming out’ did nearly 20 years ago.
One in 30,000 has gone through the change. We know that in many ways nature makes a mistake. Not many know that all beginning fetuses are both male and female and that mistakes in development happen. The psychiatric community recognizes the need for sex change when appropriate. The process is very difficult and begins with intensive counseling.

Too, they are both in MS and it's a really tough place to be while undergoing such a dramatic transformation. Not known for the kind of compassion needed by those undergoing the process...or their families.
