Let the Major League Baseball free agent signings begin.
According to the Chicago Tribune, the Chicago White Sox and 32-year-old outfielder Andruw Jones have agreed on a one-year, $500,000 deal.
Jones, as a part-time player, had a batting average of .214 with 17 home runs and 84 RBIs in 82 games with the Texas Rangers last season. His lone season in Texas came following a horrendous 2008 season with the Los Angeles Dodgers in which he batted a lowly .158 with only 3 home runs and 14 RBIs in 75 games. Jones had an on-base percentage of .256 and an OPS of .505.
Andruw Jones, a native of Willemstad, Curacao, began his career with the Atlanta Braves as a 19-year-old and quickly made a name for himself as one of the best all-around players in Major League Baseball. From 1998 to 2006, Jones passed the 30-homer mark seven times and the 100-RBI mark five times. He is a 10-time Gold Glove winner and a five-time All-Star.
Jones is expected to be a part-time player once again for the 2010 season.
