Remember this story? Bill Sparkman, a Kentucky census worker, was found in highly suspicious circumstances: naked, bound and gagged, hanging from a tree, with the word "Fed" scrawled on his chest. After a lengthy investigation, authorities say he committed suicide despite the appearance of the scene of his death. Apparently he had taken out two life insurance policies and spoke with people about killing himself prior to his suicide.
A sad story, but I have to say that I'm relieved that this is a suicide, inasmuch as that can be a good thing. Glad that it was not a murder by anti-government loons, as I fully admit I assumed when I first heard the story. Seemed way too far-fetched that he would stage such an elaborate mock-homicide death when in fact he killed himself.
