Oh my. I think I would lock my daughter up and only let her out to go to school... LOL... I think 15 is too young too. Goodness me, she hasn't even traveled the world yet. I don't have any advice for you but I sure hope this truns out good ....

LOL, Lee! Anthony strikes me as a very level headed guy and he did want to talk to us about it. We just got so wrapped up with Thanksgiving and other issues. I know he loves her very much and that's why I feel he will understand.

I have four daughters and would not have wanted them to become engaged at the young age of 15. Looking at it from the kids viewpoint I can understand why they both would be disappointed. I am not sure I would have made her return the ring without sitting down with the both of them and having a very frank discussion. If they are determined to be engaged a ring is not going to make much of a difference. There is nothing wrong with a very long engagement or even what used to be called a promise ring or pre engagement ring. It is too bad Anthony did not sit down and discuss his plans with you prior to buying the ring. Doing so may have eliminated any issue.

I told her the same exact thing, Linda! I told her that I wished he would've talked to us first before he bought the ring. He did try, but, as I said before, we got caught up with other issues and we forgot to call him. We'll get the opportunity to discuss this with them on Saturday. Thanks a bunch, Linda!

After I commented I was thinking about your situation and the situations my daughters have been in. Why are these kids in such a hurry to grow up? I got married at 18 and it was not a wise choice. I wish I had gone off to college and just been a kid for a while longer.

That is a very good question! It's one I've pondered over on various occasions. She's only known him since New Year's Eve of last year. These next two years will give her and us a chance to get to know him better. She has dreams of going to college, too!

I have a son that is 15 and there is no way, he would be ready for any type of responsibility that comes with marriage. You were wise to ask her to wait. Being engaged, married, having babies always sounds so much more romantic than it truly is. It takes a lot of maturity and hard work to make it all work smoothly.

I got married the first time at 17 .... I think 17 is too young, but then I'm jaded. I'm of the opinion that kids need to live free for a few years.... college or jobs and understand what living on their own means before they commit to a partner. But that's my opinion... I know there are a lot of people who married young and have been happy their whole lives.

I got married when I turned 18 and although it's lasted for 35 yrs, this isn't true for many others. I agree with you, totally. Yes, I agree with you. She has her whole life ahead of her and she has dreams of being a pyschologist. High school and college first, marriage later.

Congratulations to Natalie and Anthony! And I mean that! To me, they have professed love and I applaud love always. That said, I also feel that they are too young for marriage, at least until Natalie is out of high school. I don't feel the engagement should have to be broken off, for if they love each other through the waiting time, good for them. College has been attained within a marriage by many, so I wouldn't rule that out either. Either way, ring or no ring, love may prevail over time...or not. I know, I wasn't much help...sorry!

Wow is that too young to be thinking of getting married. I do know what it's like though as I got my first engagement ring when I was 17 and was ostracized in high school for it. Eventually I came to my own senses and gave the ring back ~ much to the chagrin of my boyfriend at the time. My parents were relieved and I was happy that my parents talked to me about the pros and cons of getting married at such an early age. I am definitely grateful to them for this to this very day!

I do believe that you are a great Mom for looking after Natalie's best interests. Other parents might have just been happy to have their child get married and out of their homes. I know you know the type.

I do believe that Anthonly will be sad but he will grow to understand and wait IF his love is true.

I can only tell you what I tell my youngest daughter who is 16, she is too young to think about getting married. Yes, we all had a puppy love, that's normal, but it takes a lot to make a marriage work. Now is her time, to grow, to learn, and to live! I tell mine that she needs to keep her mind on want she wants for her future, she says she wants to be an OBGYN/Obstetrician. Her focus should be on graduating High School, and searching for which college she would like to attend, and trying to make it a reality. Enjoying her college years, growing into a woman. I tell her what she might think she wants now , might be different in a few years, don't rush to grow up too soon. I try to remind her on how many of her friends can say that their parents are still together, and how to they feel being raised by one parent, and is it easy on her friend or their parent. As parents, we want our child to be happy, but we must try to protect them sometimes from what they think is right at that time because of their youth. We do it as parents, as so have our parents with us. All you can really do now is keep your communication open, trying to get them to understand that they are too young, and if it is true love, they can wait a few years, they are both very young to plan their future!
