V has wasted no time getting us hooked on the alien TV show reboot! Now, ABC has to hope that the 4th episode's cliffhanger is enough to hold us over until March 2010. It was not part of the show's original plan to have a hiatus, but production was shut down a month or so ago to "retool" the remaining 9 episodes of season 1. Fortunately for us and for ABC, the first 4 episodes were solid outings that laid down a great blueprint for the season and perhaps even the entire series! What are some key things to keep in mind as we go into the 3 month hiatus from V?
- Valerie and Ryan are having a baby - I don't remember the details, but there was a V/Human cross-breeding that occurred in the original series. Ryan doesn't look too excited about this. Is there a precedent on Earth for this sort of thing? How is this going to play out? And if the baby is born, what is he/she/it going to look like? Half Lizard/ Half Human? All Human? Total Lizard? Will it follow a normal 9 month cycle or do V's procreate quicker? One would think that we would be seeing the birth by May Sweeps wouldn't we? Hmmm
- Valerie is Tyler's therapist - It seemed that there wouldn't be much of a role for Valerie outside unknowingly dating a V. Now, she has a V-baby on the way and is listening to the whining complaints of "THE CHOSEN ONE!". Naturally, since Tyler brought the nifty camera jacket with him, Anna and Lisa were eavesdropping on the entire conversation.
- Tyler meets Anna and sees lots of Blue Lights - We sure don't know what it means that Tyler is the one. But after his mother could not give him the time of day (something tells me that will change now that she saw that IM from his buddy), Tyler boards the mother ship with with Lisa to meet her mommy. The first thing Anna wants to show Tyler is the engine room and tells him that he's the first human to ever see it. Am I crazy, or did everyone else just see a bunch of CGI Lightning? What was so spectacular about that? V has some good effects and everything, but the interior of that ship needs some serious work!
- The 5th Column hits a setback - Anna investigates the death of Alan Tudyk's Dale by questioning the medical crew. We all knew it was medical chief Joshua, but his right hand man took the fall for him. Apparently, Joshua is a big leader in the resistance against Anna. Joshua was ordered to "SKIN HIM". Didn't seem like a very pleasant process!
- The V's carry suicide (disintegration) Pills - As we see with the almost captured V in the parking garage, every V has a pill that once consumed totally turns their body to dust. It's gonna be tougher to crack these lizards' skins than we thought!
- Erica and Crew uncover a sinister plan - Erica, Ryan, Georgie and Father Jack spent some time getting to know each other in this episode. Their plan is to expose the V's for what they are and they start with trying to crack down on their new Healthcare initiative. Georgie gets shot during the process. We find out Father Jack was a medic/chaplain in both Gulf wars. Erica also finds out Ryan is a V, but is convinced he is on their side. Long story short, they invade a warehouse and find out that the V's have been experimenting with some drugs on humans and killing them. They are planning to distribute their lethal injections by mixing it with Flu Vaccines. Erica realizes that Anna is exploiting the predictability of humans knowing that any health scare will cause them to get their flu shots in mass numbers. That ain't cool Anna! Fortunately, Ryan knows how to activate Fail-safes on V Security Systems and blow up all the meds and the warehouse (except for the vial Erica took as evidence). All this and he still found time to post a message: "JOHN MAY LIVES" for all the V Baddies across the globe to read! 5th Columnists aboard all motherships, UNITE! Did I mention Father Jack punched out a V? Niiiice!
- Chad Decker MAY have health issues - We aren't sure if the V's are telling the truth, but apparently their advanced technology was able to detect a brain aneurysm that will not rupture for another 6 months in Chad Decker. They claim that they are able to treat it. Do we think this is just a way to keep Chad, and the world media, within their control or do we think they honestly detected this? They tried to sell their case by detecting all past medical issues Chad has had and the exact age when they happened (I caught chicken pox and appendicitis in there among other things). It should be interesting to see what Chad does.
- Father Jack gets stabbed - Georgie has a conversation with Jack while he is getting stitched up. He tells Jack that soon he's going to have to make a choice between being a priest and a soldier. As mentioned earlier, we did see Jack get a nice right hook on one of the V's. Later, we see him unlocking his past and pulling out a revolver from his military days. But he decides he is not ready to abandon the cloth and puts the gun away. (Is it me or does he have a gun locked away right next to the prayer candles in the church? This is one edgy priest!) So, Jack sees a man crying in the front pew and goes to tell him that he can't be here. But when he gets in close to console the crying man, it turns out to be big bad baldy V from earlier. He takes out some sort of PIPE (didn't look like a knife did it?) and shoves it right into Jack's stomach. We leave Jack in this episode lying on the floor with his older mentor priest yelling for him. Something tells me Jack will be saved! (no church pun intended)
- It's Only the Beginning - Once Anna is made aware of the warehouse explosion she decides the best way to get all of the Vs attention is to strip down, step into some bright lights, and whisper some sweet nothings to them. Clearly, she is able to control them with her words and have some kind of hypnotic impact on them. But, is this only for the people that are "CONNECTED" to Anna? Remember last week's episode when the V wanted to become "RE-connected?" It didn't seem like Ryan was affected by the speech or even heard it. But it did look like Joshua was still unwillingly affected. Even his skinning victim made mention of it too. Lisa explained to Tyler that they call Anna's gift "BLISS" inspiring Tyler to kiss her. Bliss, eh? So, does that mean the next time we see Joshua he will forget that he was a prominent figure in the resistance against Anna? Was Anna successful? And does it even matter? As we see at the end of the episode, it is indeed only the beginning. There are 28 mother ships hovering around the major metropolises of the world, but millions and millions of miles away in another galaxy, there are what looked like 1000's of ships departing planet V (assumption) and heading this way!
-----------CLIFFHANGER----------
Woa, crazy, right? So what is the plan with the million ships? Total annihilation of the planet? Maybe they are bringing the entire V population to the planet to inhabit the earth after they kill off the humans? When will these ships arrive at Earth? Oh, and while we're at it, what is so special about that whiny son of Erica? What is he chosen for? It has to be more than just being Lisa's mate right?
What did everyone think of this episode? Of V's first 4 episodes? Are you hooked enough like me to come back for more in March?
