Musicheads ask you about Second Impressions

This week I welcome The Current's Music Director Melanie Walker and Jacquie Fuller, host of The Current's new show Teenage Kicks, to discuss The Mountain Goats' "The Life of the World to Come," the self-titled effort from the London-based band The XX, and the latest from 23-year old English hip-popster Jamie T, "Kings and Queens."

We also the question, "Is there an artist or band who won you over with the SECOND song you heard by them, after their first 'big hit' left you cold?"

Musicheads airs every Tuesday at 10 p.m. CT on 89.3 The Current.

I passed off Big & Rich's "Save A Horse (Ride A Cowboy)" as a novelty tune destined for one-hit-wonderland and didn't think there was anything deeper to 'em until someone played the album for me. The kickoff track "Rollin'" totally changed my mind about the band, from being a one-joke group to a group with something to say. The rest of their music has pretty much upheld that second impression.

Yes and Genesis won me over upon checking out a 2nd ALBUM of theirs, as some of the 1st records I heard from them, naively, were their most difficult to get into.

I hated Radiohead's first single (Creep), saw them live opening for Belly, and they still left me cold. But "Fake Plastic Trees" definitely changed my mind (as something more than British grunge lite--see also Bush). I don't love everything they do . . . but still thought In Rainbows was one of the better albums of 07/08.
