Adam Lambert's provocative AMA performance last night is still creating controversy; this time, lesbian and gay advocacy groups are upset over the decision by ABC and Dick Clark Productions to censor his dance moves for the show's west coast feed.
(In defense of said censorship decision, ABC did receive hundreds of complaints after the performance. And not just because of his less-than-perfect vocals.)
The Advocate released a statement shortly after the censorship occurred:
“In his first major television performance outside 'American Idol,' Adam Lambert delivered the sexually charged number we expected from him last night on the AMAs. It was reminiscent of other envelope-pushing performances by provocative artists like Madonna and Janet Jackson. It’s unfortunate that ABC and Dick Clark Productions censored the performance for west coast audiences highlighting the double standard that still exists for gay entertainers.”
Check out the performance below. Do you side with the censors? With the double-standard argument? Is the face-in-crotch move crossing a line?
