Issue #62
Â
Greetings, Gather writers, and welcome to this issue of Freelancing for Pleasure and Profit.
I know that many of you write regular columns, commentaries, messages to family members and more here on Gather. Have you ever considered utilizing these weekly or monthly installments to compile a book?
I h
ave been contacted recently by a couple of publishers who are interested in doing just that with my Freelancing for Pleasure and Profit column. Since there are 62 issues written since I first started the column, that would translate into a moderately sized trade paperback book. While I'm still up in the air about how to proceed (or if I even want to at this point) I felt it was well worth mentioning to those whose columns I have read here for quite some time.
Please note that there are a variety of publishing methods that go beyond that of traditional publication. There are the self publishing options; some of which are actually wonderful opportunities and others that sadly are nothing but scams. There are options for publishing your work as an e-book, and for reading on a device such as a Kindle.
Having a decent number of columns or commentaries is a great way to dabble in these alternative publishing options. After all, the work is practically done. Your heart and soul won't be exhausted over the next weeks and months by creating new material; and you'll learn firsthand if alternative publishing methods can prove lucrative.
Check out some of the following links when considering such an idea. And keep me posted on when and where I can obtain a copy of your new book!
