A creature which appears to be over 20-feet in length swims in a canal located near Madeira Beach Florida. Residents are baffled by what exactly the Maderia Beach monster might be, but speculations have already began. One man, Russ Sittlow, has even captured images of the "thing" on camera. He set up his own surveillance camera to grab video and stills of the strange beast swimming the waters behind his home. He's grabbed images of it on three occasions since September, with the latest viewing coming this past Saturday.
Biologists are guessing that most likely this "monster" is nothing more than a big manatee, based on its speed and size. Another speculation has deduced that it's possibly an anaconda snake, except for the fact that this thing seems to have a tail, and snakes don't. One man claims to have seen two creatures like this and believes they could be dangerous. He doesn't recommend swimming in the canal until this thing's been identified and dealt with, if necessary.
Madeira Beach is located in the Pinellas County region of Florida. It's bordered on the west side by the Gulf of Mexico. As of 2004 census data, the population was estimated at just under 4,500.
While many called this thing the Maderia Beach monster, another man has nicknamed it "Normandy Nessie", because the man lives on Normandy Road. A further guess as to what the creature might be is that it's a mutation of a snake or python.
For now the Madeira Beach monster will continue to lurk while man decides whether it's "friend or foe"!
