Today I went to an optical place that I don't like to order contact lenses. We originally had to go to this place instead of the one we prefer because our insurance decided to use only them. But since that time, our insurance no longer pays anything for eye care but my records were at this place. So, I went back there to order my contacts. I walked in the door and the receptionist was on a personal phone call discussing all her own personal business while I stood and waited. When she would get a business call, she would put her call on hold and answer the business call, then go back to her chatting. Another worker was sitting and doing paperwork and didn't leave the paperwork to wait on me--so I waited and waited. Then, as usual, they couldn't find my records. They always have to hunt for them for a long time. Then they didn't write down which contacts had been the trial ones that worked best, so they didn't know which ones to sell me and it took them a long time to figure it out. They are always so disorganized and inefficient. After a really long time, I finally got the contacts ordered and they said they would be here in 5 to 7 days. Usually they say that and its 3 weeks. Well, I was leaving the place and I said out loud, "I hate that place." A guy coming in stopped and asked me why. I hesitated to say anything to him about my dissatisfaction. Then he told me he was the OWNER of the place and he wanted to know why I wasn't satisfied with his business! Yikes! So, I told him the reasons why I don't like his place. He suggested that I try his other branch of the same optical company on the other side of town. I told him I'd tried one and didn't like it so I sure wasn't going to drive across town and try another of his places when I can go to a place where I get good service right down the street. Well, after I left the place, I got a call on my cell phone that I missed picking up but there was a voice mail left. I listened to the voice mail and the woman who worked at the optical place called and apologized for the poor service. She said that they were ordering me an extra pair of trail contacts along with the 2 boxes I ordered. That way I could try the lenses and make sure they were right for me in every way before opening the boxes of lenses, and if they weren't right, they would refund my money for the boxes of lenses or reorder something else for me. I feel kind of bad for the woman who works at the optical place because I know the owner made her call and apologize. The individual people who work there are nice enough but they are just very disorganized and inefficient. Probably the owner told them to shape up!

And believe me, if I get bad service from someone I will tell them. You are paying for that service and if they are doing it to you they are also doing it to others. So, you actually did the owner a favor in a way. You made him realize it. Hopefully.
