| Some are calling Sarah Palin the anti-intellectual, the anti-elitist, the prototypical populist venting anger and rage across the bow of her 21st century progressive counterpart-- Sarah Palin is to the conservative base what Nancy Pelosi is to the liberal establishment. Both women give voice to the die-hard believers within their particular political party's ideology. To cast Sarah Palin as the silly bimbo from Alaska, to pretend Palin is a simplistic populist, vapid and devoid of character or substance, is to completely miss the mark, and in the end, even if she is what her detractors suggest she is, that doesn't mean she can't win a presidential election. The left suggested Ronald Reagan was a reckless cowboy and buffoon, but Reagan won a landslide re-election demonstrating the power of a simple message delivered by a simple man. G.W. Bush was declared stupid and incompetent by his opponents time and time again, yet Bush also delivered a re-election campaign that seemed to confound and confuse his critics. Apparently, being a genius isn't required to reach the highest office in these United States, if we are to believe the 21st century progressive voice of strident irrationality. The simple truth is, the average hard-core leftist in the modern democrat party, will, by definition, define anyone that dares to disagree with them, as uninformed uneducated incompetent idiots without nuance or depth. The 21st century progressive will uniformly dismiss whatever disagreements might confront him. By ignoring any debate from the perceived barbaric conservative voice of ostensible intolerance, the leftist liberal denies what seems obvious to everyone else, to wit: the nation is a body of mostly conservative people, with a large group of malleable souls in the middle wishing they could fully embrace the passion they see in their conservative cousins, and are generally suspicious of the behavior, the arrogance and attitude of progressive paternalism. The distinct minority, the 21st century progressive sneers at the majority living around the middle and the far right, attempting to portray their puny numbers on the far left as the enlightened few. Enter stage right, Sarah Palin. Palin represents the perfect kind of target for the 21st century progressive. Universally reviled and hated by the modern democrat leftist, she is made to order for the role of bimbo without a brain. Palin doesn't pander to the self anointed power players on the left; instead she walks and talks like that broad living down the street; the babe you might see in the bar having a beer, talking loudly, gregariously, back-slapping and laughing freely with the boys. Palin appeals to so many for precisely the same reasons she is excoriated by so few. Earnest, honest, simple and straight-forward without pretense, what you see is what you get, that's the appeal of Sarah Palin. People believe she is who she says she is, a G-d fearing woman that believes she has been given a role to play in this world. A woman that understands what it means to be a mother, and a politician on the national stage, Palin comes across as genuine, even if she isn't the smartest woman in the room, much less the smartest person. It doesn't really matter if they label Sarah Palin, it doesn't matter what the slanderous rants might imply or casually deny; all that does matter is how the public reacts to Palin over the next two years. If Palin delivers the knockout punch I am suggesting she is capable of delivering, it will mean she has proven herself and her abilities for enough people that she'll be the first woman to be president of these United States. |

Sarah Palin evokes the kind of visceral response one might expect from a simpleton rather than an intellectual type portraying themselves as being superior to anyone in the room.  | |

I'm not sure Obama's stature has declined in the dramatic manner your comment seems to imply, but one would have to be a fool to disregard the growing questions surrounding the re-election prospect for a second term.
I don't think Obama's ratings will go up any and they are getting lower every day. People will wise up to the man before too much longer.
I think she just might....
Maybe if she came up with some good solutions to the nation's problems and meant what she said.
The democrats would be smart not to underestimate her abilities to run a well organize and strong campaign. While rising millions of dollars to get her message out to her followers, just look at her book sales now, it's gone through the roof and she was paid more than she would ever make had she just gone back to Alaska and finish her term as governor, she just so clever. I'm sure that those liberals are at a loss of what to do, so they make fun of her in such hurtful ways. I just think she great, and really don't think a wink or a nod is funny either, I think it is rather cute. I'm sure the terrorists don't want to see her as president. Just the thought of Sarah Palin in the W.H. makes feel warm inside, don't you?
She'll need to move beyond the slogans and demonstrate intellectual rigor by debating the issues in the public square, she'll need to prove she can build an organization that will carry her message, raise money and volunteers to do the work that needs to be done to conduct a presidential campaign capable of winning an election.
She'll need to broaden her appeal from being seen as a conservative woman, to merely being a woman, attempting to garner support from the middle as she demonstrates a solidarity with surprising diversity.
The election in 2012 is Palin's to lose. If she does what she needs to do, Obama is in trouble.
For now.
I would say her actions are both gutsy and intelligent.
She has a better resume now than Obama did in 2007.
I'm not saying to change her values, but Pailin and the Republicans at this time only appeal to a small base - according to a recent poll (I'll look it up and paste the link) only 18% of the American people identify themselves as Republicans and 20% as conservatives.
We go in cycles from a center-right to a center-left stance as a country and right now it is shifting to the left.
It's hard to say how this development helps any candidate. What do they do? Insist they are bipartisan? (actually, that has been working)
"instead she walks and talks like that broad living down the street; the babe you might see in the bar having a beer, talking loudly, gregariously, back-slapping and laughing freely with the boys."
WTF? Why not just elect Roseanne instead.....at least her kids are grown up?
another REAL person instead of a stupid politician......
couldn't do any worse than the "pros"

Fortunately, I disagree with your assessment above :>)
.
Palin, on the other hand, may be better at poker than people realize......
The stuff dreams are made of.
Here's to Sarah Palin; may she never - EVER - go away.
I am going to go out on a limb here: No woman since Eleanor Roosevelt has done more to further the cause of progressive politics in the United States of America.
Don'cha just love her?

I think it's more like Reagan demonstrated the power of a simplistic message delivered by an actor who was very accomplished at sounding like an ordinary guy.
The key to Palin's popularity is that she makes an emotional connection with people. It has nothing to do with what she says. It may even be in spite of what she says since it's often contradictory or meaningless.
And if it isn't what she's saying, why/how does Palin make an "emotional connection" with people???
Obviously, you're an idiot-- you've proven it yet again.
History indeed speaks for itself where Reagan is concerned. It's not very flattering.
I have no idea how Palin makes an emotional connection with people. It's clear that she does though. If she had to stand on her ideas she wouldn't be very popular.
A certain place has frozen over so many times in my lifetime, I lost count when I was about ten years old. It happens on a fairly regular basis in this ever changing dynamic world we live in, so loosen up that tie fella and join the real world.
I found the tacky attacks on Hillary's appearance by the Obamaits during the democrat primary to very revealing of their mindset.
But ... but ... but ... the LEFT cannot possibly be sexist?!?! No, no ... perish the thought. Lefties are always in the trenches for any minority ... until they get in the way of the left wing loons. Then the attacks become vicious, ruthless and over the top.
Such nice little liberals. Don't you just LOVE them?
Bravo! I'm impressed with your Ann Coulter impersonation. Now do Jimmy Stewart.
And he thinks I'm the inciter.... *chuckle*
I voted for her and not really McCain too....there was always a chance....
I think she speaks the same language as the rest of us and not in a scholarly condenscending manner.....
I love her almost as much as good ole' Ronnie R....I was a young republican after jumping off the let's blow up the schools if we can't get out way liberalism....there is a limit to madness....
the gem......
of your post.........
-- how about Ron Paul and Sarah Palin?
~~~
Whereas Paul represents a fringe, conspiracy minded and driven contingent of paranoid self described patriots, Sarah Palin elicits support from a much wider, broader, more mainstream form of extreme right wing politics.
Paul is a fact spitting wonk, Palin is a gut level celebrity, with people trusting her strictly on the instinct she is one of them.
Ron Paul would rout the FED while Palin will toast their wisdom. Paul espouses policies that would inhibit business, whereas Palin would work to promote business needs.
Paul hasn't merely gone rogue, he's a joke unto himself, a lone voice crying in the wilderness suggesting the rest of the world has gone crazy and only Ron Paul can bring about sanity once again.
Ron Paul would rout the FED while Palin will toast their wisdom.
What wisdom? The dollar has lost 96% of its purchasing power thanks to the Fed's poor oversight. All their deals and decisions are made in secret. Paul has introduced an audit bill so the American public can have a look at what the Fed has been up to with our dollar. The bill has wide bipartisan support, all house Republicans and over 130 Democrats support it.
Paul actually has a consistent voting record, for limited government and fiscal conservatism.
you think the guy is a god....
~~~
his constant hectoring about his "constitutionalist" viewpoint, as if no one else understands the constitution ???
paul is a WHINER, endlessly complaining that no one listens to his GENIUS ! ! !
the guy is a nutjob, that believes he's the only person in the world qualified to "interpret" the constitution....
Too many Republicans have failed to follow through in office and support limited government.
I really think this woman is better than what our other choices have been for a long time
just my opinion
Bill Leavitt
I would have to disagree with you on this Chris. She's a ditz. Unfortunately there is more truth to the Tina Fey impersonation than should be. Her leaving the office of governor of Alaska was embarassing not to mention that it seriously calls into question her willingness/desire/intestinal fortitude to serve in the public arena again. ... Read MoreConservativism needs fresh new blood and new faces but Sarah Palin is no it. She spent 7 pages in her new biography on her Saturday Night Live appearance and one on her national security ideas. She is vacuous and her mental acuity is vapid.
Chris Leavitt
She may be a fraud. We'll find out. For now, I like what she's doing, ditzy or not. I see a larger movement here, and it embraced her. I see the scripting, but if I were in her shoes, I'd have someone write, or vett every word I said in public.
Chris Leavitt
Quitting was a radical move, and it may end up killing her political career. Doesn't change my admiration for her, because of what she has already accomplished.
Bill Leavitt
Chris, the quitting thing is really troubling. I was highly suspicious of her during the campaign and she is the reason I wouldn't vote for McCain. (Imagine her eyeball to eyeball with Putin?) But she quit for reasons that don't make sense. They are non sequiters. (Latin for does not follow.) Her logic is self serving and just lame. Here is the ... Read Morenews flash. She DOESN'T WANT to be president. She wants the perks and the lifestyle but that ktichen is Really too hot for her and she knows it. She wants to sell a few books, make money on a tv show and cash out. She really is full of shit and interested only in Sarah.
Don't jump on this band wagon. I know there is a movement out there waiting to begin. And a lot of our friends on here will be a part of it. But if that movement is going to be viable it cannot take in this cheerleader fraud as it's leader.
Chris Leavitt
I want to see how she does with Bill O'Reilly. He's one of the best interviewers out there. I think she's on his show Thurs. and Fri. I'd also point out that if she is a fraud, she's no different than Al Gore, or most politicians.
Do you agree with me, or my brother, everyone?
