Could a good writer be a bad blogger?

Some authors have blogs and some do not, and I was wondering if that's because not all writers make good bloggers.

I have a blog...now, since I was told it was a rite of passage to authordom. So, I posted some pics, the back cover text, and a few chapter excerpts on there, and now that the book is out, I am left thinking, "Now what?"

Many of you have blogs out there. Good ones, I know, since I stop by and read them with awe. You are great sources for freebies and hot topics. I feel like I get to know you better through your blog, but maybe I just don't know where to begin. Or just maybe....some authors make bad bloggers...

Okay, share your opinion, or better yet, share your successes with your blog. I--and my two blog followers--will thank you! :)

I think it is possible because truly a good blogger isn't necessarily a good writer. A blogger must simply express themselves in a witty and entertaining fashion. Since a lot of what they are writing about is real and happened to them or someone they know then a suspension of disbelief is needed, nor is plot, and character development.

Thank you for your response, Jennifer, and I think your answer is right on target. Many authors write about their fictional world. They are experts on a realm which they created, but don't feel inspired by the latest topics and trends. Great feedback...thanks!

Maybe some great authors just need a little practice to be a great blogger. Your topic here would be a great post for your blog, Kim!

I think that blogging is different than writing a book. Many novelists are horrible bloggers. So are many newspaper columnists. Many writers are horrible at marketing their own book. Everyone doesn't have all skills. Perhaps some writers need ghost writers for their blogs. :)

I was just like you when I started my blog; I had no clue what to write about except for updates on my books. Then I started writing reviews of books and I added spotlights and interviews with other authors. Now I have a small following for my writer's blog.
It just takes some time to find your niche.

I must admit: I'm not very good at following links to writers' blogs. Perhaps I should do more of it but it does take time after checking all my e-mail messages.

Hi, John! Yes, I agree; it takes time, but I have learned so much from reading fellow writer's blogs. And if I had to do it all over again, I would have started blogging and getting linked into on-line communities well before the release of my book.

Well I am a beginner writer , so I would say Yes ,I think thats why my diary as kid only had one or two entries that s it.

Yes, I love writing fiction, but I have never been good at keeping a diary, either. I'm hoping to get better at blogging, and good luck with your writing! :)
