Grey's Anatomy is back this week with another all new episodes, the ninth of this season. Titled New History, we finally see the return of Meredith to the hospital along with Izzie's return as well. Katherine Heigl had taken a five week long hiatus to film a movie, and Meredith had tried to a maternity leave, but she ended up not leaving the series at all between her quick recovery after childbirth and pre-taping her scenes she was still around. Izzie returns to this hospital this week not as an employee, but with her high school biology teacher. Apparently, he needs some assistance after being diagnosed with dementia. She thinks this was a wrong diagnosis, and she wants Derek's help.
Of course this means seeing all her friends, and her husband that she left behind. Owen has also managed to fight a heart surgeon for Cristina as well. One she isn't too sure about, and one that seems to have some kind of history with Hunt. She doesn't even know how to install a temporary pacemaker, which causes some concern for Yang, but she tries to go to the Chief, Bailey derails her. The Chief has a lot going on apparently, and he didn't even make it home to his wife the night before. This makes Adele raise the question if her and her husband are having an affair, which comes as a shock to Bailey and the others that hear it. Bailey manages to talk Adele down, but she still thinks Webber is having an affair. Bailey ends up confronting the Chief about this, but he says nothing. She then ends up thinking he is having an affair with Izzie Stevens.
However, it looks like the Chief might have made a mistake in surgery. He is that clouded right now. Steven's teacher apparently has fluid building in his spinal column, but he can't afford treatment. Izzie goes to the Chief to get the procedure done pro-bono, but he isn't up to doing it. She threatens to go to the press if he doesn't because of the clinic she helped build in the hospital. This makes the Chief change his mind. He has his own issues with his mistake while having to go into surgery. Bailey fixes it, but he backs out of surgery for the time being. Allows her to take on his surgeries instead. There might be more going on here though. It looks like all the stress of the merger has driven him to drink again. We see that by the end of the episode.
We also see that Yang might actually have found a CardioGod after all when the doctor lets her perform a new procedure and helps her learn it. The main emphasis of the episode does seem to be Izzie's return. Her and Alex finally talk, but they don't resolve anything. Will these two resolve anything? Or will end up moving on? No way to tell yet. Check below for a scene from tonight's episode, and a promo for next week.
