I was on the fence for quite a while about this. Should she? Shouldn't she?
Maddie's not in school or anything, but she does have a lot of contact with my nephews who ARE in school. She also goes to the library for storytime once a week and runs errands with me.
I talked to two friends of mine who are a married couple, are pediatricians themselves, and have young children. I trust them completely and I asked them what decision they have made for their children. They said that they were getting their own kids vaccinated as soon as they could. That was good enough for me.
Getting the shot has been a hassle and a half, though. Nobody has it.
Finally, at Maddie's library group, another mother told me about an upcoming vaccine clinic at our local mall. I decided to take Maddie and see if I could get this taken care of.
My three year old daughter waiting for TWO HOURS to get her shot. I'm not exaggerating here. We got in line at 10:00 AM and we walked out of there at 12:15. I didn't realize the line was as long as it was - only when we got to a certain point in the line did I see that it wound around a few more times!!! She was such a little trooper. Okay, she did get fussy towards the end, but she made it all that time. She cried a little when she got the shot, but the cookie I got her seemed to help.
The only downside is that she's supposed to get another shot in a month, and I'm not looking forward to putting her through that.....
It's been over 2 days since she got the shot, and she's had NO PROBLEMS AT ALL.
Just thought I'd share my experience for those who are on the fence about this.

My husband may get it, I am not going to get it
Deaths have quadrupled in the last week in my area, not just babies and small children anymore, now its pregnant women and the elderly. Along with a bunch of teens.
The shots so far are for the high risk people but starting next week anyone can get it and because we have socialized medicine - its free.
I had my H1N1 on Thursday and have had no reaction to it but a slightly sore arm where they gave me the shot.
Tomorrow I see my GP for my yearly physical and will ask him for the regular flu shot.
In our area it seems that things are seriously screwed up. I've spoken to so many parents from school and my daughter's ballet class whose children (and themselves) are on the high priority list but they can't find a place to get the shot. They are contacting clinics, their doctor's offices and anywhere else they've heard they are available and they are all getting turned away. One was told that NO doctors have the shot in the area and that they can only get it through clinics. I've spoken to at least 5 different parents about the subject and none of them have had success.
But then I've spoken to two family members who are on the second tier of priority (they aren't kids or pregnant- one works with kids and the other has a weakened immune system). The one who works with kids got the nasal spray at her doctor's office and the other got the shot at her doctor's office. They go to different offices.
It's so odd that the ones who should be getting the shot are unable but that some docs. have more than enough (one of the family members said that her doc has plenty left because most of the pregnant women and kids at his office did not get the vaccine).
I have to agree with this - I cut and pasted it from Visionaerie above. Salud
also, agree with this - cut and pasted from above.

None of us have gotten the vaccine. Actually I have never even had a flu shot of any kind.
