The western boundary of Oklahoma south of the panhandle was originally established at the 100th Meridian by the Adam-Onis Treaty between Spain and the United States in 1819. Surveys one in 1858 and 1860 showed that maps had the boundary marked 100 miles too far east. Litigation and subsequent surveys caused the border to move back and forth. Finally the Supreme Court of the United States in a 1930 ruling stated that a recent survey had established to true location of the 100th Meridan.
