no unfortunately our house wasn't decorated this year. =( I have been so bogged down with homework this year that I didn't even get the halloween buckets out until halloween morning and didn't even get the candy bought to pass out until about 3pm on Halloween! In past years we have gone all out and the house looked so cool but not this year.
I loved Halloween in Sparta. I don't know if they do it anymore, but when I was little, all the kids would line up at Central El on Halloween at 5, and have a parade, walking through downtown. Then, the civic center would have cider & donuts, and usually some sort of a civic trick or treat station- like the police & fire fighters, etc.
They don't do a parade anymore, I've heard a lot of people say they miss that. The fire station has a day of kids games and crafts, and my daughter has gone in the past, but we didn't make it this year.
It was huge- it always felt like just about every kid in town would walk in the parade. It filled the street. I also miss the OLD Santa house. When I was little, every single year the Santa house sat at the corner of Division & Union, next to the bank. The new house is nice, but memories- you know? I remember in 2nd & 3rd grade (which was at Central El when I was little), we would always make paper & glitter ornaments, and make the long walk down to the bank, then go down to the basement, and decorate a huge tree they had down there.
I miss my hometown holidays. It seems like a lot of those little things, are things that schools, kids, and towns just don't do anymore.
