The Sierra Club is bugging me

Recently I contributed a few bucks to the Sierra Club. I did it partly because I am deeply concerned for the Earth, partly because the sticker looks cool on my pick up (next to FREE TIBET and the NRA logo) and partly because a federal judge in Miami strongly suggested that I do it as an alternative to a day in jail for inappropriate remarks in court.

AT ANY RATE, I was immediately beseiged with huge, slick, professionally prepared solicitations for money from every commie pinko rat bastard charity in America. Sierra Club had sold my name!! I got junk mail from the ACLU (already a contributor), every Save The (fill in blank) organization as well as The United Way and March of Dimes. And, believe it or not, The Sierra Club!! The sent me maps, brochures, membership cards, etc and requests for more money.

Here's my beef. I know that for every dollar that I contribute to these big, national charities, 90 cents goes to overhead and slick materials. To make matters worse, How many trees died to create all those brochures??

I used to contribute th Cal Farley's Boys' Ranch in Amarillo, Texas every year because all I ever got was a personally signed post card from Cal thanking me and hoping that I could contribute again next year. Eventually, of course, Cal died, the ranch went corporate and I started getting slick, expensive, professionally prepared solicitations so I quit contributing.

How can we stop the "charity industry" from exploiting us for the good, not of "the children" (who can resist those big brown eyes and dirty faces), but rather the professional organizations that run the campaigns and get most of the money????

I'm just saying...
