Christmas tree's also start being sold in September.
With Hawaii and California being the biggest customer who will pay top dollar for even crappy looking tree's.
Getting tags and going to the big logging companies land is where the biggest tree's come from.
Christmas tree's are put into balers, like hay is. They are wrapped with baling twine, and put in semi trucks for transport.
First row of tree put in backwards so the precious top is not damaged. If tops are damaged many trees are then cut up to be made into wreaths and other such items to be sold that way. Or marked down on the lot.
Ones tree may have been cut, baled and sitting since September to thanksgiving when the selling begins.
Christmas tree's are a HUGE thriving business. At least in the pacific northwest..... At one time Oregon was the leader of the business, but I have been "out of it" for a while. Good money when a tree used to be bought for $3 -$5 bucks (in field) and sold for $40 on up (heck just think some sell for $500). Even with paying for the cutting, baling, truck on wards.
Family member used to (maybe still does?), have three simi trucks full of them sold in the season. He lived all year round with the profits made.....
Christmas is money time.
