Gone Squirrelly for Saturday!

Sunshine's feelin' a bit squirrelly today :-) I'm not an avid college football fan, but I am a Buckeye born & bred (Does that make me the nut?) - so with that in mind I'll be rootin' for OSU to wallop Penn State today. Besides, I've a writing bet on this game - poetry vs fiction -  I'm sure lookin' forward to a 30 line rhyme from m'friend Len, as opposed to havin' to write 300 words o' football fiction m'self :-) GO BUCKS!

Aww, that's so cute!
As kids, my sisters and I saw a wounded squirrel, we put in a cage and nursed it back to health. When it was time, we let it back into the wild. I will never forget that as long as I live.

We were rather young. I was about twelve, I think. My sister Melissa is two years younger than me. My sister Tanya is two years older.
The squirrel left, he didn't return.

sorry to say....but i have to go with penn state. michigan wolverines don't like buckeyes much & i have relatives that went to penn. :(

I don't know, Ruthi. I think bird feeders are for the birds--literally. I just mowed my leafy front yard, and not a squirrel in sight. I guess they figured my pecans aren't good enough for them. (Up north, I used to smear shortening on the bird feeded pole and watch the squirrels slide down.) Hey Ruthi, don't you think those nice young men from Pennsylvania ought to have a chance at the championship for a change?

Hahaha, Chris...yes, those nice fellas ought to have a chance, just so long as OSU doesn't have to lose today for that to happen! :-)

Oh that sounds like 'funniest video' material, watchin' the squirrels slip-slidin' away from the seed. I'm sure it makes for plenty o' chuckles! And I agree, I used to get very annoyed when the squirrels would steal my birdseed...(squirrel ended up on dinner table)

Too bad, seriously, about Iowa's quarterback out for 2 weeks. However, we play them next week... I'm just glad I don't have to write football fiction, I much prefer poetry :-)

Jennifer, thanks for the heads up, however...the word is actually 'piety'...unfortunately, the text was distorted in the gather graphic madness. Sometimes it appears I've yet to figure out how to compensate for gather's graphic issues...sorry. Happy Saturday to you, too, m'dear!

When in the Santa Cruz Mountains we had bird feeders on a platform for the squirrels. They love sunflower seeds. I had my feeder so I could see it from my bed. There were times when a squirrel would be looking in the window and projecting: "Feed me! NOW!" They were certainly entertaining.

Then to top it off, that squirrel was face down and flipping his tail like crazy. They seem to have a code with those tail flips.

They also came from across the San Lorenzo River jumping from tree to tree. Then they jumped onto my roof and ran across. Sounded much heavier than they are. LOL!

The tail-talk intrigues me too! I've been watchin' one out my window for days. He runs across the wire to the pole & jumps into the nearby tree, then moments later back across the wire to the other pole, jump in another tree. He's been goin' back and forth for days...busy critter he is!

Yes, hahaha, sometimes he even stops dead center on the wire, poised for flicking of his tail...now you know he's chattering to somebody out there, probably the lady in the window, ha!

I think you might be right Elizabeth. I've been watching her closely and she is carrying nuts with her and stops midway to flicker that tail.

Hi Ruthi, must admit I can tune out football even though my family all seems to love it. They know I can't bear to see those men get hurt, as I worry myself sick and project out twenty years. I know it's crazy, but I can't help it. It just seems so brutal even though my men tell me it's fun.

Here too Katherine. There are many old trees in this rural area; my yard has several huge old maples and a few black walnut, and a couple o' buckeye trees. So the squirrels are all over the place and quite entertaining for me and for the dogs!

I'm happy to say that we'll be reading Len's poem! I know it will be a good one, as he is our Litterateur Len! :-)
