The importance of these dates is to explain quantum shifts we are experiencing. We begin with time and space, each level of the Mayan calendar represents a stage of our evolution.
There are nine levels of the Mayan calendar:

13 sections: 7 light, 6 dark
7 days, 6 nights
Each level is a measure of the evolution of human consciousness. Days represent an increase in consciousness and nights are when that consciousness is applied.
In 1999 we entered the 8th level called the Galactic cycle. The higher up we go the faster things happen. Events that previously took 20 years to take place will only take one year now. We are moving to the point where we will not have time to ‘think’ which means we are moving from mind to intuition.
By February 10, 2011, we reach the ninth level which is the Universal cycle when we will be developing the unlimited ability of conscious co-creation. It is not that far away.

Unfortunately, most pay more attention to the elite.
That is what we are here for, all we can do is tell them. Some will have experiences now that will prove it to them and others are not ready to evolve.
It is to take away from the gloom and doom scenario we are being bombarded with.
People are in a state of upheaval due to the flu (media induced). The media introduces more fear with movies such as The Fourth Kind and 2012. We are now faced with a financial meltdown. If these are the things we focus on this is our reality.
Let's focus on solutions.
Okay. All I saw was pretty pictures and heard pretty music. Is that all I was supposed to see and hear? I don't think it's going to be this pretty, visual or sound. When a way of life is changed in a twinkling of an eye it can create unimaginable chaos. In America, Our Eastern and Western shores disappearing and the center of our country splitting into two parts .... think about these things .... Pretty music and pretty pictures don't go with them. Interesting is too mild a word to use. Some among us read and learn some among us see and know.

Sunauara, this change introduces a lot of gloom and doom. Tell me about the solutions. There is no changing it. It certainly will draw the survivors together as a group and advancement will definitely be in the future (incredible advancements) but going through it will not be nice or pretty.

You do realize that some people don't have a clue as to what is going on the the real world and they will be hit hard with a rude awakening.
The first solution is to turn off the TV. How many people will do that? What I can tell you is that the controlling factions on this planet are well aware of what is taking place and are doing their best to keep us in a fearful state.

I dearly hope we will, but I don't see any transformative event, short of a nuclear winter, as able to penetrate the intellectual defenses (denials, lies, rationalizations) we have wrapped around ourselves --- from the church (synagogue, temple) to Wall Street, from birth and remote parenting to the pound of ashes we ultimately become on this planet.
I hope I am wrong. Sorry for my gloomy outlook this evening.
Calleman is one of many who say that our American dollar will be worthless which will be a significant change in itself. The U.S. will no longer be the big power but more on equal terms with the rest of the world. I have noticed new companies popping up where they pay you to send them your old gold that you have lying around. There is a jeweler where I live who is advertising for gold also.
We should have had free energy years ago, perhaps there will be a possibility coming up. Changes in health care are on the table. As far as religion goes, more evidence will be found regarding our history as the die-hards fight for their beliefs until the bitter end. There will be Earth changes but no nuclear disaster.
