Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire, the much-buzzed about Oprah- and Tyler Perry-produced film, opens in select theaters today.

The film tells the story of Clareece Precious Jones, an obese illiterate 16-year-old living with her dysfunctional and abusive family in Harlem in the '80s. When she's invited to an alternative school, she's given a chance at turning her life around.

Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire premiered at the Sundance Film Festival to rave reviews. It's gritty subject matter, but a story that needs to be told. The word "haunting" pops up in reviews. You have been warned.

Gabourey Sidbie stars as Precious and is already inspiring award-nomination conversations. Also starring are Mo'Nique, Paula Patton, Lenny Kravitz, and Sherri Shepherd.

I've seen all the promotional things people have been doing for this film. It looks excellent. Mo'nique, Mariah and Sherri Shephard are in it. They are all excellent in this film. I can't wait to see it.
