Flu Shots In Short Supply

Mike's work usually provides flu shots, but they didn't get any this year. The reason being the company that provides the flu shots didn't create any....that company worked on the H1N1 shots instead.

Which amuses me since the regular flu kills more per year than h1n1 has.

This is not a true statement, have you seen how many people have died just since the H1N1 flu was diagnosed? There have been more deaths with the H1N1 in the short amount of time since it was named & catagorized in May.

The h1n1 here in in short supply not that it personally effects us. We aren't getting it anyway.

The h1n1 is in short supply here. The seasonal isn't available in as many places as normal, but it isn't too hard to find. I had one of my sons get both shots, he is high risk. The insurance covered them! Yay!

I think it's in short supply here in Va, although I'm not really sure. I'm not getting the seasonal flu or the H1N1, so it doesn't affect me either way.

We got the regular flu shots in September, and at the time, the clinic downstairs from where I work had lines forming even outside with people trying to get in. The swine flu shot has been coming into our area in small amounts. So far they have had this vaccine for young children to a point and for some of the healthcare workers, but I don't think it has come in at all for the general population.

Walgreen's has started a small clinic inside the drug stores at some locations. That is where we got our flu shots. It was easy and the cost was 24.99 for each of us. It's a walk-in clinic. 1 nurse only, and we did have to wait a long time. This has just started and maybe they'll add staff as time goes by and Walgreen's gets a feel for how many people will actually use it. This is a good alternative to a doctor's office for certain health issues.

I've heard of shortages of the h1n1 shots, but not so much for the regular flu shot. We're fortunate that our company pays for our seasonal flu shots. This is the first year I've gotten one.

I won't be getting the hini flu shot, or the regular flu shot for that matter. I wanted to but am allergic to eggs. The flu shots have eggs in it.

I must have had a sensitivity to eggs as a toddler, because I remembered seeing a card when I was older, and when I asked if that mattered, they were going to "check" and never got back to me, and another nurse refused to give it to me. I don't like the taste of eggs now and do not eat them, but I can eat them when they are used in a recipe, so I'm not sure if I could have the flu shot or not.

Check with your doctor. When my son was a baby & they said to give him egg yokes in his cereal he would throw them up everytime. We waited & tried again when he got a little older with dippy eggs & again he vomited. When he finally got to the allergist they said he was allergic to eggs & not to give them to him. He had flu shots but they were given in 2 seperate doses. He can eat things with eggs cooked in them but he had never eaten an egg. We found out when he got older that he was allergic to the feathers & birds, we also noticed that it was the egg yolks that made him ill & not the white part of the eggs. He decided one day to try a deviled egg. Well he will never do that again...full of egg in the mayo & the egg yolk mixed in didn't do to good with him.

flu shots are incubated in egg whites, they do not have eggs in them & even allergic or highly allergic people can get a flu shot if the doctor feels it is necessary. But it all has to be done with your doctor in charge of the whole thing.

I was supposed to get my flu shot last month at work. It got changed to this month. I'll be getting mine in a couple of weeks.

My husband works in a nursing home, and he gets his there every year.

I am not getting either flu shot, I don't think they are safe.

Usually, by thhis time, my doc would have given me my shot.
There has been a huge lack of the shots here.
The regular flu shots were about 3 weeks late, and still more here is needed.
The swine flu shots went to just those who work in nursing homes and the hospitals. The swine flu has yet to be made available to most of the general public.

I didn't get my shot either. We're in short supply over here in Philly too.

There is a shortage where I live. I'm not getting the shot anyway. But, regardless of what your decision is about getting these shots--make sure you keep your vitamin D levels between 50 and 80, the optimal level. This is like the foundation for your immune system. It's essential regardless of what you think about with these shots. I speak from experience.

We usually get our flu shots at our local pharmacy that we use. They were supposed to get in 250 doses of the shot, but instead got only 50. They gave those out within the first hour that they opened. None of us have gotten a flu shot this season. Ron and I aren't planning on getting one (in order to save money) and we probably won't be getting the kids one either. Haley's school is supposed to be getting the H1N1 vaccine but we'll see.

Our school got the H1N1 vaccines, but we decided not to allow our kids to get it. Even if I had chosen to get it, Branson was home sick the days they were giving it so he would not have been able to get it anyway.

I feel that it is just a matter of preference for people to decide if they want to get the flu shot or not. I don't get mad at friends who do not get them I just tell them if they get sicke to please do not come near me as they did not have their shots. I prefer to get the flu shots as I am in the medical field & exposed to everyone & everything so I just feel better about it. I must say that I have not been sick in many years until just this year & I feel it was becuase I did not get my flu shot & the flu hit early here.

You can't even get them in my area. The health care workers (people in hospitals and clinics) are still waiting. What a mess! I realize that the government is having problems getting enough from the manufacturers, but this distribution system isn't working either.
