Obiturary for Rob Appell

i'm not in the area to look, but Rob's best friend Scott posted an obit that Rob had written for himself...

yes, I read that, but I was looking in online newspapers for Rochester New York which is where is profile says he lived and other New York newspapers online and could find nothing about him. Isn't that suppose to be like "routine" to list people who have passed away in the local newspapers?

I only found out he passed away - today.

But it is not in his local online newspaper, it has been on Gather that he died.

I have not looked as I am not familiar with him or where he lived. But it is certainly touching to see how he affected so many people at Gather. He left a lasting legacy, and that is truly a testament to his character.

His profile says he lived in Rochester New York.

I would like to know as well.

I sure can't find anything online that he died. I just thought they listed things like that routinely and especially in a person's hometown local paper. There is no listing for Rob Appell as being deceased in his local newspapers.

With all he wrote in those last days of his online, I just started getting a haunch that maybe, just maybe it was a fake instead of the real thing and hoping somewhere he was still alive and reading what everyone had to say about him. He really did not seem to think much of himself even though he was quite popular wherever he went, I just thought well maybe it is not true and he is reading what everyone said about him. But I am wrong. It is true. Case is closed!

Larry, I just went to the links Brenda provided and it looks as if his death was published in something online. I just hoped it was not true. I know the dead knows nothing, but it just seems like he is still around.

it is also published in the Finger Lakes times today. It's not the same as the one Scott shared with us. :-( still in shock

I'm sorry to hear about his passing.

Yes I have been so grieved and I was not even connected to him, only ran into his posts from time to time. I knew he was a person who had experienced many adversities and from some of that least things he wrote I really thought he was extremely depressed, it showed up in his writing, and he several times said he felt like he was not going to live much longer or that he felt as if he was going to die. Nobody seemed to pick up on those things in his comments, but mostly conversed with him as they always did, which seem to be an entertaining type way. I been around a lot of depression in my life, other people and myself, and I recognize it fairly quickly. I really kind of think he might have been suicidal and just nobody picked up on it and even if so what could have been done about it? I do think his friend Scott did all he could for him.

I truly hoped it was not true, not to be insulting to anyone in anyway, but just hoping it was not true, then again, he is probably better off resting right now than in all the pain including emotional and mental pain he was definitely expressing through his posts and comments.

And even though I was not on his friend's list, I felt a connection to him and have bowed down in grief as if he was my brother.

Thank you for sharing this obituary, it gave this another level of finality for me. Somehow there was a small hope in all our hearts he was still here. I have to collect myself to post in the guest book. He lived upstate and I told myself a million times I'd stop up there to visit when I went to see family. Unfortunately, that never happened as I had to cancel my travel plans this summer. Reminds me of how quickly life passes by and to do the things you want for others TODAY before it's too late.

Her certainly was very personable and easy to get to know it seemed. I am sorry now that I did not connect more with him. I never sent him a friend request and he never sent me one. It is odd how his whole existence on Gather suddenly opened up to me at his death. I read a lot of his comments and some of his articles when I heard the news. I hope they don't take his site down. I am feeling better today it seems. Even though he was distant from his mother and sister, I believe they are mourning the loss as well.
