Gather Takeover

I am not one to complain, but the posts seem to have been taken over by Associated Press. I have to screen through all these posts to get where I want to be. What can I do to prevent this from happening. I have read some of these posts and, so far, there have been few or no comments. I just find this to be very frustrating.

Any help is appreciated.

I have learned a few tricks with this new layout. When on your "home" page you have choices in "My Interests Feed" and "Gather Essentials Feed". Just click there and you will have posts that apply strictly to that subject. I did not want to make that selection small so I didn't make the selection to only my friends. See? This old woman is learning and sharing my experience with you.

 

When using the Friends Feed it appears to use only my friends so that makes it easy to quickly access all you wonderful friends. Kewl!

I don't see anything but friend's stuff. I don't know how to look at other gather stuff, like that, now. This upgrade changed that for me.

It is different, April. I am learning every day and will let everyone know when I find it easier. I know it will happen as they get the bugs out. I also have to agree that AP simply assigned people to post their point of view and have an endless amount of time. Too bad for the rest of us. LOL!

Just click on the words at the top and they should give you windows to other stuff. That is what I do.

You are. I used it last night and you are in my Friends Feed. These tools are a way of being more refining the posts. It's great!

Elizabeth,

Content from the Associated Press (AP) can appear in several of the feeds on your home "My Gather" page, as well as search results using Gather's search tool. However, AP posts and photos should not be appearing in any of the 'recent content' listings.

Unfortunately you cannot completely eliminate this content from appearing for you...but you can minimize where and how it appears.

For example, remove the Gather News Essential from your "My Groups Feed" list (if you have it added there). Then, modify the keywords you have defined in your "My Interest Feed" to avoid content relating to the news.

It's not a perfect solution, but often by playing with the settings on the page, you can push AP content of to the side. If you still need assistance, stop by the HelpCenter and I'll be happy to help further (link below).

Thank you, Kevin. I am learning as I go along. Part of it is to use the "My Interest Feed" for the search. I am still learning the ropes of the new layout. It's just that it seemed Assiciated Press (AP) was taking over as it is always the first group of posts to be shown.

I never use the feed feature yet, know that I know it feeds AP content I will use it. That will save me a step in my morning news reads!

The only time I really see the AP articles is if I'm browsing gather vias the my groups page. I removed gather news essential from my notifications, which is a shame, as now I miss gatherites news posts sometimes, but the AP thing was annoying to me too.

You can navigate using My Interests Feed and The Gather Essentials. I am learning to use the new tools.

I'm having trouble finding new people's posts. When I bring up 'making new friends' it scrolls and is difficult info to use. I don't blame the Gather improvers though. It is well known that I'm a computer klutz.

I believe it has to do with havining "Politics" in My Interests Feeds. I don't want to do away with it completely as it would prevent my access to somke of the groups I read. It was just this one posting issue with AP.

I don't use any feeds at all; i use my notifications.

Associated Press is a Gather customer. Just use email notifications.

Helps sometimes. Just refines the posts. However, I just ignore some of the groups and Assocfiated Press for the most part.

It is just taking time to learn the new layout, Amy. Now that I have worked with it I really like it. Particularly the fact that it alerts me when there are tasks, email messages and the Gather points at the top of the page. Don't have to keep going back and forth. I am learning all the time.

I guess they have an account just like the rest of us. However, they appear to be posting constantly with every little news update. If I want minute by minute news I can watch cable news. LOL!

I'm glad they're greatly reduced. Frankly, since my time is limited during the school year, I've had to reduce the number of e-mails I receive about postings, but I still get more than I can handle most of the time. I really don't need AP's I never miss reading the newspaper and a few news magazines, so I'll seek them out on my terms!
