Investigators for the Louisiana Attorney General executed a search warrant Friday at ACORN's New Orleans office in connections to allegations of embezzlement and tax fraud.
Spokeswoman Tammi Arender Herring said the search warrant was executed shortly after 9 a.m. and resulted in the seizure of computers, hard drives and documents.
The search warrant follows the removal of computers and other items by two unidentified former ACORN employees when they left the organization, according to ACORN attorneys.
Assistant Attorney General David Caldwell said the original allegations of embezzlement were made last year by ACORN board members who were terminated after asking for an examination of the activist group's books.
ACORN fired its longtime director of its Louisiana chapter last month, citing a lack of accountability.
Pamela Marple, an attorney for ACORN, acknowledged that the community activist group has been cooperating with a variety of governmental agencies in the past two months.
"The AG's inquiry came in the form of a subpoena, which was issued in October and which requested virtually every document in the possession of ACORN and any related entity," Marple said.
This is the latest step in a series of investigations in over 14 states. However, what makes this most interesting, is that New Orleans is basically the birthplace of ACORN. Combine this with the information provided by dis-enfranchised former employees, and the ACORN-8, a group of ACORN Execs demanding accounting of ACORNS funds, it would appear that ACORN is either going down, or it is going to change its name and transform into something else. Hopefully, whatever is the result, the amount of influence it has on the left wil diminish. I just wonder, if there is anything damning on Obama or any other elected or appointed officials.

To put an even finer point on my example: not every member of one family, randomly chosen, thinks and acts the same and adheres to 100% of their familys' values. The human conditions not all black and white there are many shades of gray!

This is being dismissed by the far left as an attack on civil liberties. Usually being followed up with the fact that WHEN some member of ANY acorn group is arrested, they are immediately fired, and replaced; without comment.
Thank you for bringing out the truth about this group.
I wonder if the original founders would want anything to do with this group now.
ACORN is truly like the Hydra, of mythology. When you cut off one head, two will grow to replace it. The WFP in NY also has a "for profit" corporation called "Field and Data Services," which contracts election workers to campaigns. They've been accused of "low-balling" fees charged to clients, to get around campaign-finance regulations. There is one case in Staten Island, but no larger investigation has been launched by the Democratic Atty. Gen. Cuomo, who may solicit the WFP's endorsement if he runs for governor next year, as expected.
I hope they have more success in Louisiana. Something tells me that Gov. Jindal isn't as friendly to ACORN as our NY pols are. LOL!
