Ah, yes! The satisfying hum and thrum of the media and self-proclaimed pundits, espousing opinions and interpretations about the midterm elections, now merely a year away; the hyper play by play calling has begun. ...and wouldn't you know it? Already, talk abounds about how angry the American body politic is, how frustrated, and how ready they now are to 'throw the bums (whom they just elected a year ago) out.'
As if - in a check and balance political system such as the one we have - anything substantial could be accomplished in less than a year!! Give me a break!
Have we literally become slaves to the almighty remote, now thinking that our political system is going to respond INSTANTLY, the same way the television does when we change stations or turn it off with the all-powerful remote? How stupid have we become?
We voted (speaking editorially for the moment) for change.
Change takes time - and both houses of Congress moving in sync with the elected president. Which we really do not have.
We still have time - but we need numbers.
If the pundits (why are they called pun-dits? I've never heard a good pun from any of them.) are correct, and the immediate-gratification-mesmerized, frustrated American public (at least the FOX anointed tea-partying segment) rushes to the polls and votes the bums out, and the other guys in - while all those first timers who were enthralled with the promise of change choose to stay home, out of the same frustration, that nothing has yet changed, well, we will once again have snatched defeat from the jaws of potential victory - and any chance of the desperately needed change, which seemed so thrillingly close, last fall, will fade like daylight after the sun sets, and vanish for the foreseeable future.
Is that what we want?
If we really want the change(s) for which we voted, and for which many of us worked so hard, then we have to redouble our efforts, and make certain that when the midterm election comes, we elect MORE people who will support the change that President Obama represents and offers.
If we fail in this, we not only let Mr. Obama down, we let ourselves, and our children, and every further generation down - so far down that the very concept of 'up' may be forgotten. And the remote still won't work. But Rush and others of his ilk will be gloating for years.

A reminder for moveon:
Breathe in, breathe out...
Bipartisan politics is no solution while the need for consensus is still to be determined by the legislation proposed and the news of it reaching people that read with an eye toward the content of what it says. Patience is a virtue to that end.
Banter about who will follow what direction and thereby win or lose the next election is less worthless than the soap opera or the latest gossip.
But in general, it is a good policy to not decide until you have to act. Otherwise, the natural human tendency to see what one expects to see and hear what one expects to hear will generate only confirmation of your decision whether it is correct or not.
