Nicola D’Angelo, 78 of Iowa City died of cancer, Wednesday, November 4, 2009. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, November 10, 2009, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Iowa City. A reception for his family and friends will follow in the parish hall of the church. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in his memory to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Iowa City Hospice, or Iowa Right to Life. Sunday parking ordinance will be in effect for the streets near the church for those attending the services and reception. Nicola D'Angelo was born and raised in Italy. After receiving his doctorate in physics from the University of Rome, he came to this country and worked at the Argonne National Laboratory for a couple of years. After that he worked at Princeton University for about 6 years. He then went back to Europe (Denmark and Italy) for about 10 years. Nicola returned to this country in 1976 and worked as a professor of physics and astronomy for 30 years at the University of Iowa. He is survived by his wife, Else; his sister, Paola (Aldo); his brother, Raniero; and his brother, Alberto (Leda); and their three children, Sara, Nicola and Stefano.
