On Project Runway Season 6 Episode 12, we see "which designers make the cut and go to New York fashion week." That would be better if I felt that any of them even deserved to be there. I'm interested to see who wins, simply because I've been watching this whole season so to give up now would be a waste, but I'm hoping they find some
actual talent for next season. Lifetime needs to get it together if this is their fault, which I suspect it is. I mean, holy crap, Christopher is the last guy standing? That tells you immediately that something's wrong here. I suspect fashion week may have an overdose of estrogen.
The designers take a trip to the Getty Center, where they meet the mayor of Los Angeles, Antonio Villaraigosa. "We've embraced Los Angeles to the fullest, and in turn Los Angeles has embraced us," says Tim. I beg to differ. They haven't done one episode that involved old Hollywood or movie stars in any way. When the designers were told they were being taken to an iconic place, I thought the Chateau Marmont, for god sake. Any way, the challenge is to design something based on some aspect of the gardens, galleries or architecture at the Gerry Center. My first thought was: seriously? But then the designers, along with their models, go inside and see a wealth of beautiful paintings, sculpture and furniture. Okay, perhaps I can deal with this.
Carol Hannah chooses a beautiful French bed oozing with drapery and opulence. Irina hones in on a lovely baroque painting of a woman in grecian attire, while Christopher chooses a fountain. Gordana goes for a subtle Monet painting that reminds her of Europe.
"Althea's like King Kong, she wants to grab everything," Irina says of Althea. Althea fires back, claiming Irina is "out for blood." Althea actually appears to be the most immature here (Irina admits that she has a mean side and if she has a problem she'll say it to your face; there's something refreshing about her honesty), because she feels "left out" because Carol Hannah and Christopher are friends, and Irina and Gordana have become close. Grow up.
Tim has some sobering comments for the designers. Althea's looks like a "collumn of puckering," Irina's looks like "post-apocolyptic road kill," Christopher's looks like "stalagtites" and Carol Hannah has some issues with her bodice. The only one who gets straight praise is Gordana, who creates a flowing, beautiful gown off of her ephervescent Monet painting. She gets so emotional about the feelings of spirituality the painting draws up in her that she's brought to tears. I have to say, Gordana is one of my favorite characters. "Christopher's very confident but it's a false confident because he's so far in his head he can't see out of it," says Irina, adequately summing up Christopher's entire problem.
Cindy Crawford is the guest judge this week, but Michael Kors is still missing (seriously? On the last challenge??). Althea's gold mess of a dress goes first, and it's heinous. Carol Hannah's is actually stunning, something that's been missing on Runway for a while. It's a tall drink of liquid gold. Christopher's is a boring disaster, as usual, while Irina's is an interesting 20s look, something different for her (although I can't really see her inspiration of the painting in this, and her accessories and hair make her look like a gypsy). "It's a bit of a mess fest," Heidi says of Althea's look. Although the judges like the color and the back of Irina's dress, they think the length is "old lady" and the accessories are too busy. The judges mostly like Gordana's gorgeous gown (except for the "chunky zipper" in the back), although Nina thinks she should have taken more risks. The judges recognize that Carol Hannah is playing it safe with her dress. Although it's beautiful and perfectly made, this chick has not made one single article of clothing other than dresses this ENTIRE season. We've seen this look from her before. When Heidi asks Christopher if he's confident about his look, he starts crying and says, "This piece speaks more of me than anything I've sent coming down the runway."
The designers then ask why they should go to Bryant Park and which two designers should go with them. Gordana says Christopher and Althea. Christopher says Irnia and Carol Hannah. Carol Hannah says Christopher and Althea. Althea says Irina and Carol Hannah. Irina says Althea and Gordana. To sum that jumble up, they all say something different. The fact that anyone named Christopher is sheer insanity. In my wildest dreams, I would choose Irina, Carol Hannah and Gordana to go--although I don't think Althea is going to be left out. I think they're going to eliminate Gordana, although that would be a HUGE injustice.
First one called to go to fashion week: Irina. Next, Christopher is eliminated (FINALLY!). Carol Hannah is the next to go to Fashion Week. Now it's down to Althea and Gordana, and I know which way this is going to go, unfortunately. Gordana is eliminated, and Althea is sent to fashion week. Just as I suspected. Full of estrogen, that is. Is anyone else pissed that Gordana had one of the most beautiful dresses and was still sent home?
